OT : Local Golf Courses

They haven't gone missing, it's just that they haven't amassed any money to develop the area they want to.
The clowncil are still letting them run the golf course (badly) rent free.
If only there was someone to invest and tend to the course properly then the Park could get back to somewhere near to how it was in the '80's

The council didn't have a problem with the course when it was propping up failed ventures like the Zoo and the Sandcastle (both sold on to people who knew how to run a business properly)
Get someone in at the Park (the Ian Woosnam business was interested) to run it properly and the council could still reap a decent rent from the course.

It isnt really rocket science but the council seem hell bent on selling the towns silver.
Once it's gone it's gone.
What do they sell next?
The Town Hall will be converted to multiple occupancy flats.

So who runs the golf course at present ?????

A company called HIP who have been given the running of the course rent free pending planning approval of the development of the course behind the hospital.
There has been no money invested in HIP and consequently planning hasn't been applied for, so the upkeep of the course has been patchy at best.
All the usual stuff that is paramount to keeping a course and especially the greens in good shape have been non existent.
Excuse after excuse have been given why this isnt happening by the council and HIP have even told the members of BPGC it's none of their business how the course is prepared.
Christ, even the charlatans Mackgolf liased with the club over the preparation of the golf course.

However, the longer this goes on, it bodes well for the club as you couldn't see a business with no money continuing to try and maintain a golf course and anyone in the council with a modicum of common sense might see a professional set up with golf course experience could bring money into the town if run properly

I'm a member of Chorley Hall 'oth Hill. Quality place with great views. Played most of the courses in the North West. Preston is class, don't rate the other courses in Preston. Clitheroe and Lancaster are stand out places, kirby Lonsdale and Bentham are good. Knott end starts well for the 1st few holes then turns into a massive disappointment. Fleetwood was a tad boring, Green Drive very average. Found Stanley Park a real gem of a course, Herons reach I didn't like and I'm playing St Anne's Old Links in two weeks fir the 1st time.

Critch

I have no reason to doubt that's the case.

Generally speaking, courses are struggling and many that used to have waiting lists and required £1,000 down and asked for £1,000 a year and for you to be proposed and seconded and have 37 references after you'd passed their interview now just require you to have a set of clubs and pay your annual fees and you can tee it up the next day.

I ran the chap aboves description of all the local courses past my brother who plays at all courses and he agrees with them but thinks Fairhaven is more a Royal Lytham wannabees than the Old Links.
Fairhaven is definitely not a Royal Lytham wannabe I can assure you.
I’ve been a member there now for 16 months and honestly haven’t met another player who wants away from the club even if the offer of RL was on the table 👍🏼
As for your other post of Fairhaven being snooty, what do you base that opinion on?

Old Links and Fairhaven still want a ridiculous fee up front. They haven’t backed down on it and they’re full right now. Fairhaven is as snooty a club as I’ve ever been to !!!! I agree with you though, at most places it’s pay and straight in. I live half a mile from Old Links but the price is ridiculous. I’ll probably hold out for Fleetwood and be prepared for the trek up the prom. In the meantime you can get a points based membership at Herons Reach which will do until next year.
Sorry the reply above should have been to you not 2020 re Fairhaven being snooty 👍🏼

That’s based on the number of times I’ve visited it over the past few years. It’s my experience of it, like being shouted at on the first tee by some old fart because part of my golf shirt has become untucked at the back. I like most of the course but it has 4/5 weak holes which let it down.

4 or 5 weak holes as in what respect…..easy? Oh and as regards your untucked shirt, dress properly you scruff 😂😂😀⛳

Oh the bloke was a fart ... genuinely there was no need for it. Anyone says that to me again and I won’t be as polite. It was a scorching hot day been on the course for 4 hours and literally I could have strangled the old duffer!!!!
In regards to the course, I really like it and maybe I was a bit unfair, there’s three holes on the back nine that aren’t as good as the rest, particularly 13 and 14 that look a bit out of place, I think they were rebuilt a few years ago???. Overall we’re lucky to have such a range of courses. Southport area is THE place to live if you’re a golfer as the choice there is unbelievable. !!

The way this has been handled is farcical, let’s hope as it looks like, this company hasn’t got the dough & the Park is looked after properly, front 9 is brilliant.

Yes you are right let’s hope it all falls through , we are lucky to have many good choices of clubs over the Fylde , but we only have the one municipal !
ps I didn’t realise till recently that it was a choice between Stanley Park & North Shore regarding which one was going to be municipal.

Agreed... if it was looked after properly it would be a lovely course. Unfortunately it never really has been. It probably needs to become permanently privately owned but aimed at the municipal golf market.

Mosser

It was my brothers opinion not mine.

I don't think he was being overly serious but I will ask him and get back.

He plays at the Park and the standards there are probably different from other courses.

I didn't say anything about Fairhaven being snooty although I'd imagine that's what my brother was suggesting.

I play Fleetwood and love it , in my opinion I like knott end but too far out .love Stanley Park if it was kept properly it would far better then north shore which seems to have some problems, st Anne's old is great but overly expensive not too bothered about fairhaven though its good but found it tough and abit toffeenosed not bothered with the others

I am a member at the Park, our standards are very good, but we are a very friendly club, who welcome anyone who wants to join and is prepared to uphold the said standards .

Fatboy

Can I just be clear about things, I do not play golf myself but all my mates are at the Park and I love everything about it, that's where I'd be if I played golf.

The only reason that I said the standards at the Park may differ from those at Fairhaven was because when I was explaining to Mosser why my brother thought that Fairhaven was full of Royal Lytham wannabees or whatever he said, it was because standards maybe a little different at the Park.

I have nothing against the Park or Fairhaven.

You don’t have to explain yourself to me pal, I totally understand, and Fairhaven is a bit snooty !

I'm sure Mosser did it to raise standards.

I played Stanley Park this afternoon. First round anywhere in 2 years and apart from a couple of the greens having small bare patches on them the course was in as good a condition as I’ve ever seen it. It’s a great course for the twice a month players like me and will be a travesty if it’s pulled apart.

Plus I even got a birdie on the 17th and a par down the last so can’t wait to get back out there!!

You've played it the day after it was prepared for the Niblick the parks premiere competition.
If they cant get it right for then they may as well pack up and turn the lights off.

Glad you enjoyed your knock round Royal Bashem though PB👍🏻

We were actually discussing some of the pin positions being set up for a competition, behind bunkers or in the thinnest parts of the green and not the nice big flat areas!!

Why the hell is this labour council so he'll bent on destroying Stanley Park as there is so little green space as it it in Blackpool and everyone seems very against their crazy plans this is not the labour I want or understand, there will be a reckoning. Time for action

The good people of Blackpool certainly need to use their votes & get rid of this Labour council, they do not take the interests of the local residents into account.
The course seems to have been quite busy this summer , I am positive a Company could have been found that would have made it profitable.
