OT Politic Covid 19 Unions step in to ensure workers safety

Coincidently I was discussing this with my wife today and saying I didn't understand why the transport and shop workers unions haven't insisted on customers wearing masks to protect their members.

My own Union Unite has been involved from beginning to end ensuring that we are protected as much as possible.

Looks like the Unions are performing their role stepping up their demands to protect their members.

I think it's positive that the unions are at least trying stepping up to ensure the safety of their members.
Mind you, whether it'll make any difference remains to be seen. My union (Unison) have over the years proved to be as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike.
But I would think there will be many employers who are only going to be interested in getting the money rolling in again, even if at the expense of workers health and safety.
So there's no doubt unions have an important part to play here. I just hope they aren't as useless as my union.

It's good to see unions are doing something to protect workers when non essential places reopen. The way supermarkets handled this should be the precedent. eg customers and workers 2m apart, barriers up at checkouts, only open every other checkout to keep distancing up.

Our Union PCS has ensured social distancing takes place plus free sanitiser issued to every member of staff in our office. I'm working from home, but we get the circulars.
