OT - Vinyl top artist

Just been going through my old vinyl collection, mainly 70s and early 80s. On checking the most albums by particular artists, I found the top 3 were Genesis (8), David Bowie (7), and Camel (6).

Any like minded souls care to share their top 3, as a number of us on here are of a certain age!!

Bowie is top for me- no need to count.

Smiths next.

Then probably Roxy Music, maybe the first few Springsteen albums. Actually, Springsteen moves up to No 2 as I have 6.

So there you have it folks, Roxy Music have been officially relegated from the Euro Record League down to the poor Our Price League.

Earth Wind & Fire but more by default than anything else, Sergio Mendes a close second, probably James Brown third but they’re all weird compilations you forget the name of!

Moody Blues (from the second I heard “Nights in White Satin”. Got everything they ever did on vinyl (and CD), plus the spin-offs.
Masses of U2, all Garth Brooks, Temptations, bests of Classicals etc to prove my taste is eclectic. And the best concert I ever saw was the Doobie Brothers.

Looking forward to full relaxation on COVID and the chance of some live music (any).
Is that a cue for a new thread?

Good thread question. Had to make a spreadsheet of my vinyl a few years back as I had a habit of buying records that I already had as I couldn't remember what I had. Didn't really work as I then forgot to take a copy of the spreadsheet with me ! Haven't bought anything for a while so going off the latest update of the spreadsheet (which ain't correct) ;-

1) Bowie - 17
2) Velvet Underground/Lou Reed - 12
3) Led Zeppelin - 10

Not particularly a big fan of LZ either ! A lot depends upon how long bands were together and how many records they put out. Basically got full set for particular bands that I really like (eg Clash, Smiths, JD, Bunnymen, etc) but they released less than 10 records so don't make the top 3.

Yep, the Boss surprised me too, as just checked and I've got 8 of his. Also got 3 Monkees which is a bit of a shock.

In my vinyl collection, my top ones are a Velvet underground double album with Andy Warhol artwork, Dark Side of the Moon and Animals by the Floyd I’d say. Lots of others but they sound great.

Stevie Wonder
The Jam
Graham Parker
The Clash

Bowie would have been there but had Low and David Live nicked from a party and cd replacements don’t count

Bought loads of vinyls from Melody House on Bond Street (what a top place that was), top 3 l bought probably are:
Yessongs
Dark Side of the Moon
Argus Wishbone Ash

I lost nearly all my punk and new wave in the divorce - still hurts now 😗

Springers - 20
Spirit - 9
Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes - 9
Captain Beefheart - 5
Lots on 3 and 4
Vinyl still my listen of choice 👍

David Bowie
Tom Waits
Neil Young

Good shout for Southside Johnny Mark, seen them so many times live, absolutely brilliant live band.

Depends on who the genius at the desk was. Always Martin Hannett for me so, Unknown Pleasures, Closer and Still. Do I need to name the band ?

My top two would have been
The Clash
The Buzzcocks

But, being a youth at the time I probably sold most of them for the price of a pint to Hedgehog Records in the Lancaster market....
