Blackpool chief executive Ben Mansford has admitted out-of-contract striker Armand Gnanduillet is opting to keep his options open.

The 28-year-old is free to join another club at the end of the season when his deal with the Seasiders expires.

The Frenchman, the club’s top scorer with 18 goals from 34 games, has been the subject of interest from Championship side Charlton Athletic in the last two transfer windows.

The striker had all but agreed a move to The Valley on the final day of the summer window, only for the deal to break down at the last minute.

The Addicks came in for him again in January but the Seasiders made it clear they had no intention of selling unless a bid came in that was too good to turn down.

The club has since approached Gnanduillet’s representatives to discuss a new contract but that looks unlikely at this current moment in time.

When asked about Gnanduillet’s current situation, Mansford told The Gazette: “I wake up either singing ‘we’ve got Simon Sadler’ or ‘do do do Armand Gnanduillet’ because they’re just two unbelievably catchy tunes.

“Usually most mornings I’m on the phone to Simon early because he’s finished a day of trading in Hong Kong.

“Armand is a bit of a fans’ favourite from what I can see. What is it, 18 goals so far this year?

“We’ve tried to talk to Armand about that (a new contract) but I think he’s got to a situation where he has some contractual freedom coming up and he probably feels he’d like to keep his options open. That’s football.

“If there is a situation where it plays out where he stays, then we’ll let you guys know first.

“But what I can say from the last week or so is that he’s a much bigger voice in that dressing room than I first thought.

“He’s very happy to have a voice and he wants to get better and he wants to push the club to get better and he wants to be demanding of the coaching staff to get the team to a place where it will win.

“I have a huge admiration for Armand.

“When his move in both windows hasn’t materialised, his answer after not getting a move in January was to score three goals in two games.

“I hope there might be a place where we can give the fans some good news, but you’ll hear about it first via us.

“There’s not too much to say other than I respect that he’s a fans’ favourite, I respect he’s scored 18 goals, but he’s got to a place where he wants to keep his options open for now.”

There is no debate forms, he may not warm to fans like Brett or Tony Cunningham but he very much does the job... Tony Ellis was far from approachable and warm but he was a fan’s favourite simply by his score rate? To give Gnanduillet his due he probably clear more defensive corners and set pieces that the central defenders too. More worrying that goal to game ratio is likely to cost 7 figures to replace?

Season of his life, can't see it being repeated. He will know this is probably his only chance of a bigger contract elsewhere, shame we didn't cash in on him in January.

He would have had a field day last Saturday at Wimbledon, so many corners and crosses that would have been manna for him were wasted.

To those who decry the man, think about the words out of Big Yellow Taxi, 'You don't know what you've got till it's gone'.

Come on Armand let's see your signature on a new deal.

I don't think anyone dislikes Armand, me included. It was the style of footie and tactics we used. Basically get it to feeney and cross it in to Armand. Or launch long balls continually to him.

This isn't gnandos fault and I think he was badly let down by the support he received and due to the style of play became the focus of people's negativity.

Said it since last season, he needed someone close to him for support, someone similar to Chris long. That way we could play the balls into the channels to stretch the game as well as play it into gnando to hold up. Unfortunately when nuttall and hardie did get a chance to we still played the same way if gnando was on the pitch.

All we seemed to to do was have one way of playing. Basically in short what I'm saying is most people were fed up with the style of footie and not so much the individuals.

Wouldn't blame him for getting one last big contract. His stock is high, I don't personally see him keeping up this form for another season or so.

He's a good lad but he's a limited footballer.

One first big contract more like!

Maybe it's your view of what a footballer is that is limited? Very few players do everything well. Gnando does some things very well. Including the most important thing.

If he wants to stay fine, if not then I wouldn't be going out of my way to convince him to stay. I don't think this season will be repeated for him so if he is looking for a big contract elsewhere then good luck to the guy. If its true that we are wanting a manager to play up tempo passing style then it might not be best suited to him.

Herts is right he is gone come the summer. How many rocked up at Kingston (knowing that our goal scoring ability had been reduced by 60%), thought how are we going to win this?

Who is the best striker? Madine, Nuttall, Hardie or Gnanduillet? Who would you least like to lose?

100% no brainer.

Couldn't agree more.

71 goals in over 300 games is hardly prolific.

Edit over half of those goals in 2 seasons.
The last two seasons. He was a slow starter but he's established himself - he's hard to defend against and scores a variety of types of goals.

I can't believe people are still talking him down all the time. Unbelievable Jeff.

I have always looked at nando when he's song and thought would I like to try stopping him NO. Can you imagine if we had crosses coming in from the left as well as from Feeney .we can only dream what goals we could have scored with a Brett Ormerod type of player alongside.

18 goal useless lump who has kept us up this season.
I am fed up of hearing that, pure speculation. No-one can know what would have happened without any single player. We may have been better as a team. We would certainly have been better to watch. Quite a few posters have accused us of “hump ball” which is exactly what you get when you rely entirely on someone like Gnanduillet. He tries, no doubt about that, he is however very limited which leads to us playing the one plan football which got Grayson sacked.

Nonsense, in my opinion.

Not sure he would have scored from any corners at Wimbledon... we must be 120 corners since Edwards last scored with one...cannot remember when Gnando last notched from a corner
