Past the peak, but long way to go

Good post Joe

It's a huge conundrum and a very difficult call

I've said it before for me any release from general lockdown to kickstart the economy has to be coupled with more stringent provisions for the ' at risk ' groups however unpalatable that might be to some

Problem is I don't think our govt has the steel to do that and even if they did they'd face a huge Baby Boomer backlash

They are damned if they do and the economy is goosed if they don't
TAM , sorry to disagree with you again about this, but you seem to have an obsession with a forced lockdown of one group of society that is already disadvantaged. The people falling in this group will by and large know for their own safety that they must be obsessive about social distancing. Unless you know better i believe no other country coming out of lockdown is denying some freedoms to any part of its population as you would suggest.

I do wish we would not use the word Lockdown cos it ain't. There is nothing, other than my conscience, stopping me leaving my house 10 times day, driving my car, walking through my village, going to the shops etc. France, Italy and Spain had a lockdown, we have had a "pretty please, stay at home" policy and it isn't working
Just a reminder that 9000 people have been fined for breeching the'lockdown' whereas France fined more than 4000 on the first day.

It’s more of an obsession over achieving the safest possible relaxation of lockdown and sorry but based on my experiences there are plenty of people in this category who don’t get it which is a concern

Interesting that the PM who disparagingly compared Muslim women to letter boxes is now in favour of face coverings. How times change.

whats baffling is after over 5 weeks in lockdown there have been over 4,500 new cases per day,in fact over 6,000 in last 24hours,i believe some are not treating this lock down seriously
Same here, something not right. Tested say 2/4 days ago,so could be total number of health care workers and patients. Can see this figure plummeting in a week.

So why is no other country proposing this, (to be honest i think it will be left up to the individual in this country.) i.e. advised.
I work with a number of people in this group and your 'experience' seems at complete odds to the attitude of these people.
How many people in this group do you actually know who don't get it or is this just your feeling.
I can assure you their are a lot more people in other groups of society with a much more dangerous cavalier attitude towards this pandemic.

I think we are a very transparent nation because our media and public demand that. It probably doesn’t help us in the current stat wars , but it’s what we’ve demanded to know and you can’t trust the stat wars till this is all over and all countries report the fatalities the same way.
Edit to add, and we are putting deaths down to covid even with underlying health issues and if a patient had only a week to live despite covid.
Always pays to look at the bigger picture.
I used to think we had media transparency until I found this website which ranks us down at number 35 in the world and if you click on the link to the right of our rating there is analysis on why.

I’m going off deaths and infection to death percentage. Think the average is around 5.5% worldwide of people that contract the virus eventually die. Over here it’s 15%

Seems to be a claim given more and more credence by the experts as time goes on. We had a confirmed case in the UK in January but it does make you wonder how long this thing was spreading round the UK for before we correctly identified it.

We all eventually die Athers! 🤪
I would say that figure is skewed & way off.
The actual % of people who get the virus & die will very likely be 1% or less.
1% is still very high obviously so hoping it is considerably less.

Obviously concerned by the amount of new deaths n the UK reported today. I was expecting/hoping the figure would be lower. However its probably best to look at weekly data /deaths for a truer reflection of where we are.

I stick by the assumption I made some time back the number of people who have been infected in the UK will be way higher, easily a million+ already possibly considerably more.

I would think it will be considerably more... 10Million + I would imagine.

We need to start getting back to normal (not this bullshit “New Normal”, which in my opinion needs to be referred to as the “transitional phase”.... New Normal suggests some kind of permanency to measures which essentially are extremely harmful to our collective health and well being.

I totally agree and actually I'd go a lot higher than that to be honest - I wouldn't be surprised if it's about 20% of the population. When you think it's only a tiny percentage that show any symptoms, I would say the figure is a lot higher and why coming out of lockdown shouldn't be as scary as we all think.
