Patino !!!!!!

Virtue isn't good enough for the championship. What is he good at?
Carey, might be ok but not going to be a player that is much sought after.
The 4 3 3 needs good players in midfield and up front to make it work. If the manager tries to impose a formation on the players instead of looking at the squad and finding a formation to suit them, then I have doubts about the manager.
Need a midfield player with ability and a physical presence, also need a centre forward capable of scoring in the Championship. We've got neither, going to be a long hard season if we don't bring in at least 2 good championship players

Fiorini needs to play further forward, he isn’t a holding midfielder. We needed Dougall in that position today, but Dougall isn’t the answer either we need an experienced, Championship, ex EPL player in that role and let Fiorini and Patino play in front.

Oh god. What are you like? 😆

It's ** painful ! 🤣

Why the fcuk didn't he start

Best player on the pitch when he came on even though the game was lost

Seriously if we have a player whos this good on the ball he has to start games

Virtue not good enough and Fiorini kept giving the ball away

Dougall or Connolly as the holder please with Patino and one other

Also need a mobile striker and still a fcuking right back

Not good enough today the manager needs some backing by the board but we have to get the basics right and pass to players in the same colour shirt
Your first positive post since forever....👍

Not just experienced, not just Championship, but ex-EPL as well?

Shame that rules out Verratti as I hear he was desperate to join.

That was a terrible performance and yes it is fine to say that as a fan, Fiorini went missing and did not want the ball, may times he failed to show for the ball and looked overawed, hard to judge our forwards when they have no service, big Marv needs to get his shit together, smashing the ball constantly is just giving it back to the opposition. Thompson had a mare at LB and gave the ball away all game. We looked lightweight but we've been here before, hopefully we will look different come September.

Agree, right back needed (Whether Gabriel is close to fitness or not).
Connelly in that holding midfield role to stop us being bullied & protecting the back 4 (Don't care what anybody says, but Stoke bullied us).
Patino has to start alongside Fiorini (which will work if you have Connelly in there).
Prior to the game yesterday, it was crying out for us to start with a high tempo pressing game to get their fans on the players backs. Instead, We let Stoke take the initiative and get at us. Once they scored I think that was it, they could have score more than 2 to be honest.
Jerry (if it is him) has to start through the centre too, has to be someone mobile and who can press high onto the centre halves: I would be looking at another out and out striker though too.

Just to add I liked the way he wanted the ball and was shouting at Marv for booting it all the time

They need to trust him and pass to him in tight areas, in fact just pass to him

If not send him back and stop wasting everyone's time
Which is exactly what the Stoke players did with their play maker. Every time one of them got the ball they looked to pass to him 👍🏼

Sorry but even an idiot can see that Patino is about 5 times the player Carey is

Granted you probably watched from about 200 miles away bit still my point stands
I’m a big fan of Carey and hope he can step up to the mark but yesterday he was poor like many players. Patino looked class when he came on and very comfortable on the ball. Can’t wait to see him for the full 90 mins.

Pip- my point was that swapping on inexperienced player for another isn’t going to solve the bigger problem, even if you get a better player into the side.

It’s asking a huge amount for Fiorini and Patino to be consistently competitive in the Championship, when neither has played at the level before and have a minimal amount of first team experience.

And I didn’t watch it at all. Don’t need to watch it to draw the conclusions I have. It’s just obvious.

The 2 Stoke lads ran the game Smallbone and Baker both loans from Premier LG clubs

Baker is a permanent signing, is 27 and has played plenty of first team football over the years.

Smallbone had broken into the Southampton first team squad and has played PL games before getting an ACL injury.

Fiorini played in League 1. Patino has barely played a game - albeit he’s well rated and probably has loads of talent.

There’s a difference between them.

Sorry I meant the lad who scores the 1st goal a loan from Arsenal with little experience think he played right midfield

Only the second game and the manager is still assessing players in his squad in a competitive environment
Stoke did exactly want you want the home team to do
From the first kick they dominated pressed the ball and didn't let us settle
Use this game as a lesson, and move on
Some players fell well short of what should be acceptable
Others like Patino showed their character as much as their skill
Connolly should play in midfield to get the best out of the young midfielders
They say you should learn from your defeats let's hope so

The problems we had started with Quitchley just upping sticks and going out of the blue and he left us with a massive squad, which you might think was a good thing, but in our case it wasn’t because there were far too many players in that squad that just aren’t good enough for us in the championship so the recruitment team, along with Quitchley spent far too much money on very long contracts for players we are now stuck with and really need to shift.

Add to that our failure to actually only be able to sign one player not a loanee has been a hindrance so far. However I think we need to clear out those who just aren’t going to feature, sell or loan and we have 24 more days to get the players in who can play Apple’s system and improve the team.

So who do we need to offload?

Moore or Maxwell
Garbutt
James (done)
Casey (done)
Virtue
CJ
Dougall
Dale (done)
Lavery
Luballa

And I’d add Stewart and Anderson to that too unless we can keep them fit to play.

Take out Bowler, if he is sleeping lad and that leaves us with

Grimshaw Maxwell or Moore
Husband
Thompson
Thorniley
Keogh
Marv
Tharme
Gabriel
Connolly
Carey
Apter
Bowler (if not sold)
Anderson (if fit)
Stewart (if fit)
Yates
Madine
Beesley

Loans

Williams
Fiorini
Patino
Corbeneau

So that’s 18 contracted layers, Apter and Carey are under the age thresh hold so 16 that count, add the 4 loan players and that makes 20 sell Bowler and that’s 19 always have a space free for long term injured unless it’s a seriously long term injury and that gives you five places in the squad available to fill with players Appleton wants. Of course we won’t get rid of all those players I named, we are likely to keep Dougall so that gives 4 places and even then we could see Thorniley leave as he’s in the last year of his contract (I hope not) and Tharme and Apter could be loaned out, more likely Apter than Tharme I would think but Apter doesn’t affect the registered 25 as he is so young.

I think that shows the amount of players Quitchley got in weren’t good enough for where we are now. We did brilliantly to finish where we did last season, but the writing was on the wall in the last 6 or 7 games that we were going backwards, not forwards.

So, in my opinion the recruitment team need to make sure we get a good right back, an experienced holding midfielder who can dictate play and let the two in front have freedom to get forward and a striker who is mobile and can score goals a La D J Campbell and if Bowler goes we need a right winger/sided player who can at least be a real threat.

Tin hat on and my Voyeur deflection armour!!

Not read all the thread however if we continue to play two / three attack minded midfielders without cover in this division we need to be prepared for a few heavy defeats
For me it has to be two holding ( who can pass a ball to feet ! ) and one sitting in front
ie Connolly and Dougall ( or Stewart if ever fit ) with Patino or Carey
Yesterday was footballing hari kari

Sorry TAM thought you meant Harakari 🤣

Harry Karry? Was he that massive tw.t Stoke signed from Cardiff? Anyway, Patino. What a signing he is going to prove to be. In his brief cameo he showed how comfortable he is on the ball etc and has already earned a song. With a few tweaks that everyone has commented on the pool will be fine and we move on to Burnley in a few weeks time

This post is like the pundits that state the obvious after it happens . Its obvious Blackpool had a bad game ,but it was never going to be easy against a physical side away from home. The experts have now come out to tell us how our manager has made mistakes and how they should be corrected . I personally think our young team was muscled out of the game by a very physical side. I also think that we will improve as the season goes on. What I won't do is come on here a slate pool players and say they aren't good enough . Last season they were good enough ,not a lot has changed except the fans seem to won't to slag our team rather then support them . Are they really supporters

Said similar myself, as have plenty of others on my thread. (Sorry hadn’t send this one had been posted at the time). Many of the same themes on here.

Anyway, what we’re all saying is on the money, why I reply is interestingly having watch the Swansea Blackburn extended highlights this morning. This is exactly what Rovers did yesterday and blew Swansea away.

Szmodics played centrally in advance of two deep central midfielders who were stringing balls through to the front 3 as well as Szmodics.

So there’s the blue print for next Saturday. Connolly with either Patino or Dougall central and deep, Fiorini just behind Madine or Yates. Bowler and one of CJ, Bez, Corbenau or Carey cutting in off the advance wide area.

I’ll be concerned if that’s not what we see.

Because he had one training session and Appleton wants to look after him.

So we aren’t allowed to analysis the obvious weaknesses of the system without jeopardising our status as supporters Got it 👍😆

* Newbury One,
Spot on; Connolly, Dougall and Patino if we’re playing with 3 in midfield.
Too defensive, it may as well still be Quitchley FFS! Plus if Stewart was fit he would be a definite starter. I love Connolly and am meh about Dougall, but we need a proper, holding midfielder who can take control and be supported by Patino who can play both roles and let Fiorini or Carey get forward and look to score or put through the forwards. Please let's forget 2 defensive midfielders, it's shit!

I did the Harikiri a few years ago. Very icy, very steep and very difficult.
Great when you get to the bottom though! Done it a few times but last time l caught the edges of my skis and slipped all the way down and as MB says there’s no stopping once your over, quite scary really!

Weve needed an experienced holding midfield player for the whole of the window so far , obvious at end of last season. Wintle was great last year to strengthen the midfield. Have doubts about our scouting/player analysis team or whatever theyre called, as since we failed to get Ebou Adams a couple of months ago weve found no one for that role so far.

In spite of the hype - it was so obvious what talent he has. Must start from now on 🤩

If a player is not good enough ,its not hard to write that someone is off the pace, struggles holding the ball or his passing isn't up to scratch , but writing that such a player is shit , or needs binning , or any other remarks that players don't deserve after serving the club well . It just shows the mentality and interlect of some of our less educated supporters.

Remove Dougall from that list and stop being absolutely beyond ridiculous. Dougall has shown twice in two games why he should be starting.
