Pilley and Haythornthwaite

Wonder what they've made of Blackpool's promotion? There was a time when it did feel that Pilley was starting to win the battle. They had the academy and facilities to boast and Blackpool fans were turning up there regularly (during NAPM), their average attendance shot up to an average 3500 (before slowly coming down to 3000).

Meanwhile down the road, Haythornthwaite was wooing crowds with the Brett testimonial, his bar for matches and the promise of Football League by errr well next year.

Suddenly they are back to square one because both clubs only have tiny hard-core fan bases which will never increase, are now in the shadow of three nearby Championship clubs (and now two nearby League One clubs) and I can't imagine either club will be cash rich after the last two years.

Is that it? Have both men seen their best days and are now investing in a white elephant?

No don’t think so, both clubs will be back fighting again come the start of the season as will most other league and non league clubs.

Let’s not forget Fylde we’re very unlucky with the Covid cancellation of the League they were sitting in second place with games in had on the top club and looking good for a swift return the the Conference.

As for AP it’ll be business as usual along with the other 91 league clubs why wouldn’t it?

If anything Blackpool’s promotion can have only been positive for both clubs ok the Cod’s don’t have our local derby but some big clubs in league one next season non bigger than the massive. 😂

I think the o/p is talking long term sustainability and potential for both clubs. I think the Cods problem is their fan base will always be small and therefore how much can you put in to keep 'the dream' going (look at the clubs that the Cods are competing with - not an easy league and I sadly (genuinely) can't see them staying in the league more than 2/3 seasons.
As for AFC - same problem - look at some of the clubs now in the Conference and with only two promotion places, it is such a tough ask.
Both sides have lost momentum and arguably both sides had a shot at the next level and didn't take it (which is maybe why it's a bit galling - ironically for two Blackpool fans - to see what happened at the seaside).

It’s up to both of them what they spend their money on as they’ve earned that right. I’m not sure what they will be thinking really about our success, but I’d like to think they would both be happy for us, give ben they have previously been Blackpool Supporters.

I’ve been pretty consistent in my own thoughts on Fleetwood and AFC Fylde and IMO neither is worth investing in other than for altruistic purposes.

I get the impression that both (like many others) have felt the pinch with regard to Covid and that they may not fancy throwing too many more millions into their relative dustbins, but who knows?

2 disaffected Blackpool fans, p!ssing away their hard earned on vanity projects. Neither of which will be sustainable once their interest or bank accounts are damaged. In 10-15 years time they'll probably be back at Bloomfield Road with their tails between their legs.
People were saying this about AP when they played in the BSN. Let's stick to talking about BFC please. 👍

Pathetic comment.
Do you have the same views on all other football clubs being run by Tories?
To be fair, very few Football Club owners post political banners around their clubs.

Fuck Off and don’t read it if you’re not interested 👎

Let’s not forget there are people on here who said Fleetwood would never play in the football league.
The same people who never though a league game was possible between Blackpool & Fleetwood.
I remember reading 5 years ago the same people were giving them 2-3 years before returning back to the conference a broken club.
Now people are talking in 10-15 years time, you can’t keep moving the goal post. 😂

Your reply doesn't surprise me as you can always expect a kick from an ass.
I’ve just had the 1950’s in n the phone, they’d like their attempt at a wise crack back!

So what is it that you feel gives you the right to dictate what other people should discuss on this forum?

Why should we only discuss BFC? (Not that the thread actually wasn’t about BFC, which it is)

It has Persil written on the sides of buses but they don't take in washing.

There’s nothing worse though....

I mean can you imagine wandering up to a group of people in the pub and saying “would you mind stop talking to each other about what YOU want to talk about and start speaking to each other about what I would like you to talk about”

Not me Jaffa, although I get the sentiment. Truth is their league registration, in Fleetwoods case, would make them attractive to any new potential owners. So many clubs that are for sale are riddled with debt, regardless of their fan base and stature.

Fleetwood just sold one of their best players and have sold a couple of other better players over the last year as well. Seems like either the money is running out or that Pilley has realised that they're at best a League 1 club so his aim has changed to just trying to keep them there. Either way I hope they stick around the level they are now, I have some good laughs with Fleetwood fans so don't want them to dissappear back into non league.

You’re worth reading (subjects/opinions) but the strong language?
At that moment, I wondered how many youngsters read the ‘board’?
On the other hand, get it off your chest.

Oh god bless the youngsters and their little innocent eyes and ears. Fortunately for us adults (AVFTT average age somewhere North of 65), kids tend to use other forms of Social Media (and are exposed to all manner of dodgy content in the process). So it’s just the over-zealous Christians and Snowflakey types who we need to worry about.

Some times a straight forward ‘Fuck Off’ can say what a thousand eloquent words simply cannot. 👍

It is hot. It must be the weather.
You’re supposed to say that after someone says “You What” and the typical response would be either “Yes I am hot” or “No I’m not hot” or simply “Yes” or “No” if you wanted to tee up the bemused look and associated follow up.

Saying “It is hot” after someone says “What” just smacks of desperation to try and shoehorn, yet another dated quip into the conversation.... And more as to the point, it’s not remotely BFC related.

So do you have any real opinion on the OP? I mean surely both AP and DH must me wondering why they haven’t enjoyed such meteoric success, given the money they have spunked?

Are they having to pay more to attract players to stay at their clubs?

Can they sustain the level of investment needed to prop up their fanless Clubs?

I've never been in either ground, although I've used the petrol station before they knocked Derby Rd down, to be honest I barely give them a second thought but they've definitely improved both clubs and seem like decent owners, even if they did make arses of themselves during lockdown last year.

I,ve held a theory for 2 years now and that is , that Burn Naze would make a terrific training ground for us. After all its out of the way, ready to go and only 7 miles from Bloomfield. It would give Pilley working capital for The Cod’s survival in the football league.
Fylde could always ground share with the Nobbers ,selling Dungdale would help the Tower,s owner recoup a few Bob and between the two of them would ensure a sellout most weeks.

Both will be back to us by the Summer of 2024 when they've both already sold off their respective clubs and Sadler is looking for investors to help keep us in the Prem.

I'm not sure we should be doing Fleetwood any favours TBH. It's bad enough IMHO that so called Blackpool Supporters are willing to prop them up by attending games. Far too many people failed to respect them as potential local rivals and whilst I will acknowledge that they remain tin-pot in respect of their support, they did manage to steal a bit of a march on Blackpool for a short spell. As a business, we are essentially feeding from the same trough as Clubs like Fleetwood, AFC Fylde, Preston etc... and so we need to be strong competitors on and off the field.

There's no room for cosy arrangements that help Fleetwood out financially... In essence, it's better for us that their training facility becomes a white elephant. Ruthless perhaps, but this is sport and I really don't think there is room for two League Clubs in Blackpool, Wyre and Fylde and we certainly can do without 3.

I think the sell outs are inevitable ,neither can exist as they are. Both are future Rushden Diamonds,Stockport etc in waiting. Time always catches up with these Johnny come lately s

Some of the sell outs have taken a while, but they're still coming back to us.

My dad's friend was a season ticket holder at Fleetwood before the pandemic, him and his son are getting one with us this season which will obviously be their first one since the boycott.

There's a few like him knocking about. They just want to support the team in the highest division thats easy for them to get too.

Obviously you can't tell people what to spend their money on and ego is always going to play a big part where these entrepreneur type characters are concerned, but that's the reality...

I just don't see the point in it all... I mean you hava a situation in the UK where the Big City Clubs already have a huge financial advantage over the existing and established Football League Clubs like us, Burnley, Bolton, Preston, Blackburn etc... The last thing any of us really need is the Fleetwoods and AFC Fyldes of this world as all it does it water down the potential and financial clout of all the Clubs... We ought to be aiming for consolidation of our supporter base and financial strength instead of watering it down with what essentially amount to pointless clubs, which as you rightly point outm will fizzle away once the benefactor is done.

The AFC Fylde Stadium is an absolute credit to them and it has been a great story.... Albeit, I can remember when blokes from Kirkham actually played for their home Club and success was actually based on the merit of the local talent, rather than the ability to outspend everyone else!! It's great for those who have been involved, I'm sure and it's good for the Town, but I'd rather see two local league sides who can draw respectable attendances than 4 who can't.

Surely one of the reasons that people own football clubs even if it's Fleetwood or Fylde is for the prestige. That's why Owen hung on so long because as soon as he loses Blackpool Football Club he just drops off the radar and disappears.
It's an ego thing as well. Take a walk past Andy Pilleys house and tell me he doesn't have some kind of ego. I'm not criticising him for that either.
What a lot of people miss is what DH and particularly AP have done for their communities. Maybe you have to live in Fleetwood to appreciate that.

I have shares in a racehorse and love it even though i will never recover the outlay.Similar thing i suppose.

As a previous poster has stated, both clubs are white elephants, particularly AFC Fylde who are completely pointless as far as I can see. I can only assume that DH was hoping that Oyston FC was going to go pop and he was positioning his club to become some sort of ready made Blackpool FC Phoenix club, I think the who thing of them having tangerine change kits was kind of testing the water. Unfortunately for him, we got our club back and the experiment is now doomed to failure! As is FTFC to a lesser degree, they are punching well above their weight and will be costing a substantial amount to sustain

Prestige owning Fleetwood 😁

You can't say this. Fylde Coast Football love in.

As I've always said, they were parasites feeding on the carcasse of my club, literally benefiting from its demise.

They've always been unsustainable vanity projects and that will be even more so this coming season.

Vultures circling around trying to get us interested in supporting the respective 2 teams, both successfull business men so they surely should have known football fans can’t change their allegiance’s even though some went to get a football fix, fair enough but the pool were always going to get rid of those owners & I’m sure they knew it, I got an email today from afc fylde inviting me to a fans forum meeting, I only live 10 mins walk from the ground but god knows how they got my email address unless it was something to do with the Brett testimonial, would have liked to have gone out of interest but had a prior engagement injecting chilli sauce into my testicles with a blunt hypodermic

That's a really intriguing post about DH. We will never know now, thankfully. But regardless I do wonder if that was at least part of his thinking. Maybe he could have renamed it yet again... BFFC.. Blackpool & Fylde FC, or Blackpool Town or whatever...

Handy with the covid restrictions, keeping the fans forum to a maximum of 6.

I'm guessing both owners have enough money to keep their assets as a going concern.

I think the good news for them is they know their average home attendances isn't going to move very much really unless they plummet down the leagues which might happen I suppose. So setting a budget is fairly easy.

Certainly FTFC will benefit from some decent away followings visiting next season (Covid permitting) and can easily see them having sell outs of they give over ⅔ of the ground etc.

Oh the wider point, they can do whatever they want with their own money and football is all about dreaming of promotion; I think though, it's a far harder proposition now and the days of multi-scarfers are limited.

I hope they both fail for all the obvious reasons of only having one league team on the Fylde Coast but that's got nothing to do with the owners.

As others have said, a lot of their recent success or support has been totally dependent on our demise.
It’s not a criticism, just fact.
I don’t think over achieving is sustainable now we have our club and fanbase back through the gates.
They have a limited support and ergo limited financial resources now so they will probably regress a bit. Then it’s hard to say if the owners can bank roll both these clubs at a decent enough level that makes is actually affordable for them.
