Pink Ball test thread

Forgive my ignorance, have loved the tests especially through these times.
What difference does the colour of the ball make?
I know there’s a lot of intricacies in Test Cricket

The other thing is the combination of the pink ball and the conditions bring pace and swing bowling right into the equation. Which means we have a chance. Winning the toss would be a great help.

One spinner is a risk, although Root can turn a few.
With it being a day night match the argument is that you get 4 different chances, the hard new ball, twilight, full lights and then as it's a dry pitch reverse swing. Seam is England's strength so they have gone with that.

I agree and probably think it’s for the best.

If that balls moving around, our attack is about as good as it gets 👍

Great toss to win but I suspect this will be a much more even test in terms of conditions. Clearly we are going to need a solid start. How good is it to see such a magnificent stadium with some fans in. Come on England!!

Not the easiest session, the ball is nibbling about a bit. I guess the key is leaving the ball well and making sure we score off the loose balls. This could be a bit of a nightmare to watch....

Poor shot by Sibley, but it was a good ball. First hour really important here

No, nor me on reflection. Archer ahead of Leach in the order says it all. We're a batsman short at least I think, the ball is doing enough.
I never get Archer ahead of Leach - I know Archer has at least one first class hundred - but for England he is woeful at batting.

When Archer first came into the team, he was supposed to be able to bat a bit, but in test cricket has never done it.
Archer average is 8, which is shocking to play at number 8.

Broad on his day can hit a few and was higher up when a few years ago, but always 10 or 11 now.

Broad lost the ability to bat when he took that bouncer in the face.

Broad above Archer all day for me. The thing with Jofra is he's a good natural cricketer but he lacks the application and concentration to see it through. I hope I'm wrong but I'd have gone with Woakes - or Stone, who's really unlucky to lose out.
