Pitch invasions: solution.

After recent events it's getting out of hand.
Solution, invade the pitch and your team forfeit the tie, whether it's a cup final , title decider or relegation decider.
We celebrate goals in the stands so stay there.

I'm sure I have a memory of ref's giving both teams the nod that the whistle was about to go, then the players would gravitate towards the tunnel for a speedy exit. Keepers were left to fend for themselves, but that's easily solved these days.

That
in days when the crowd would leave the terrace/seats and gather by the touchline, often inside and on the pitch.

Good idea for the masses.... smaller or individuals Think they should say anyone caught invading will get a life or 10yr ban from all football. Sure that would soon put end to all this nonsense

Easy enough to check I would have thought.

Sounds exciting.

So you’re in the ground 2-1 up and someone invaded the pitch.

Do we then get to see the fan checked to see who he supports? Maybe live on the screen.

Ted Hastings from Line of Duty asking the fan who he supports and checking his ticket buying history?

All this going on whilst fans wait to see who’s won the Cup.

Brilliant idea. You are joking aren’t you?

Impractical. It only takes a few to run on at the beginning which would be the tactical undercover agents and the rest just follow like sheep.

You would have to capture and check all who had gone on the pitch to find the planted undercover agents. Would take months of investigation work.

VAR could be used to check who the fan supports 🤔

What would happen if Leeds got beat yesterday so Burnley stay up and the Dingles invade the pitch in celebration?

They've already been beat point deductions? That's a slippery slope.

I think we're talking about full scale pitch invasions, not some lone knob running on the pitch.

What a load of bollocking nonsense

At the cricket at OT on Friday there was a sign stating that any incursion onto the pitch could result in a £1,000 fine.

If we applied that in football, then it would be a deterrent even if police could only catch a few pitch invaders at a time.

However, it would also stop fans protesting on the pitch about the way their club was being run so on second thoughts…..

I quite like a pitch invasion to be fair ... but when the feckwitted morons start attacking players something obviously has to be done.

It'll be a lifetime ban for starters, and if that doesn't solve it there will be points deductions.

Low voltage electric fences like they have to keep sheep and cattle in fields ..after all most of those who invade are like sheep….so maybe a sheep dog on hand to herd them off.

…..only joking by the way but then again😉

Jokes apart something needs to be done before a really serious event takes place.

Education, education, education.

Also, legislate so that people found guilty of invading the playing area without permission, also lose their jobs and attendant benefits.

Lose their jobs and attendant Benefits!!! That's a bit like saying starve them to death, and will you be pleased when a whole family with little kids are affected by the misdemeanours of one stupid idiot?

How do you educate a 31 year old , like the guy who nutted Billy Sharpe, when at that age you expect them to have a certain amount of common sense, not idiocy.

Oh, and before you ask, the only solution I can think of is to ban them for life from football and give them a short, sharp lesson at HM's pleasure as they have done with the prick at Forest.

Far simpler to have the next home game behind closed doors or just away fans everyone would know where they stand and I suspect the majority wouldn't then go on the pitch but even that's flawed.

More realistically than my previous post:

Education, education, education.

Also, increase policing in grounds. Stewarding has always been the cheap option. Stewards cannot control crowds. Nor should they be expected to.

But do we have enough Police we're already at a situation where a few Tories in Blackpool effects an away game in Preston!

When there’s a giant killing in the cup for example, there’s always a pitch invasion (pure passion & delight) you can’t tar all these people with the same brush, as these idiots. So it’ll have to be long bans or porridge.

A major Party conference trumps football I'm afraid.
The point being you ask for extra Police at football grounds do we have the numbers for this and what is the point when 99.9% of games the extras are not needed?

Add on the costs to the clubs as the on the day security is a lot cheaper paying for police officers.

I don't think we're disagreeing. A home Tuesday night vs Barnet does not require wall to wall police. It still requires sufficient police to effect arrests if needed. A home Saturday vs Sunderland is a different matter.

Let me run that one past Billy Sharpe. 🙄
The same Billy Sharpe who's been winding fans up his whole career

He actually nearly got a smack from one of ours when he was at Scunthorpe

Lets hope for the remainder of his career he stops being a ** now

Unfortunately because of the behaviour of a few idiots action will be taken. Policing/stewarding is never going to stop a determined invasion. So all you can do is start making an example. It's already an offence to go on the pitch so next time it happens a random 10 say pitch invaders (substitute a number of your choice) are banned/prosecuted or what ever punishment is seen fit. Next time there's an invasion twice as many fans and so on (except of course if you are attacking Billy Sharpe).
I know this maybe seen as typical old fart talk but the last thing I want is to be watching football through a fence.

The best part of a pitch invasion is when fans start looking at each other thinking 'what do we do now?'. 'Best walk off mate'.
