Player of the Decade

The murals thread got me thinking to more modern day standouts/favourites. I say modern but say over the last 50 years (or less if you’re younger) …. Starter for 10

70s Bob Hatton
80s Stan McEwan
90s Alan Wright
00s Keegan Parker
10s Charlie Adam
20s Jerry Yates

I preferred Dougall to Yates (dont get me wrong, Yates makes my team of the decade!). And Keith Southern has toes more legendary than Keigan Parker.

If we're talking personal favourites, I'm something along the lines of:

70's before my time. Probably that Suddick lad people talk about.
80's Andy Garner, but I only remember the last few years of the decade.
90's Brett Ormerod
00's Keith Southern
10's Charlie Adam
20's King Kenny.

Mine is an alternative 'What If'

60s, Alan Ball: If only we didn't have to sell him.

70s. Tony Green: If only he didn't have that injury, what a player! (60s/70s)

80s. Paul Fletcher Apps 20 Goals 8, a career-ending injury while playing, so a potential buyer could have a look at him. Cheers, Alan, for leaving us with Super Ted.

90s.Mark Taylor: If only he didn't have that injury, a winger Apps 121 goals 43

00s. Ricky Lambert, Cheers Steve 🤡

10s. Kevin Phillips, wish we had him sooner. What a player in his day he must have been, and what a player to watch, he must have been.

Cheers means they got rid of him because they just didn't like him.

Like him or not it has to be Sinclair for the 90s, went on to play for England, the last ex Pool player to do so.
00s has to be Ormerod surely?
The 00's were between Brett and Murph. Brett was with us 97-01, then rejoined us in 2009. JM was with us from 99-06, hence my choice/opinion (edit, yes I had to check wiki for the dates)

Brett left in 2001 and came back late in the decade.

Keith Southern was there more or less throughout and played a full part in our rise up the Leagues.

Yeah fair enough I didn’t realise Brett left in 2001, for some reason I thought it was later than that.

A lot of candidates for the 60s Alan Ball 1963-66 and briefly Emlyn Hughes before he wentbto Liverpool. 1966 signed Alan Suddick but then under Stan Mortensen we signed Tony Green and Tommy Hutchison around 67- 68.We had some top players in this era .

This is purely based on my observations/favourite players, so might be a bit different from the perceived obviously famous players:

70’s Glyn James/Mickey Burns
80’s Mike Davies
90’s Dave Bamber
00. John Murphy
10 Charlie Adam
