PPE

The Public Accounts Committee have stated that £2billion of PPE ordered by the government is not fit for purpose.

From having a scarcity of PPE at the start of the crisis we now a glut - we need 4 months supply of protective eyeware but we now have 13 years worth.

Cost of storage is £6.7m per week.

Assuming that we send out a clear specification of what our PPE requirements are for the tender, then if it doesn’t meet this when supplied, don’t pay for it.
Either it’s fit for purpose and meets spec, or it goes back at suppliers cost?

The storage cost isn't really £6.7 million, that's what the storage company will charge and get away with, because no one checks the value, 99% fact despite not knowing the specifics.

The big question is who got the money? What experience/ expertise did they have in procuring/ manufacturing PPE? What links did they already have to the organisation giving them the tender?
You all know the answer to this but some of you are too busy moaning about £56 million going to the French but apparently have no issue with billions being spunked against the wall on PPE/ track and trace etc etc.
Rolls eyes.

All aboard the Tory gravy train, choo choo
I have been working long enough to see PPE go from the wearing of “old clothes for work“ to a standalone industry.

I don’t think people realise the gravy train that the use of PPE has created for manufacturers, importers and salespeople, especially when overzealous H&S Advisors / Consultants insist on the use every possible piece of PPE in their overcomplicated Risk Assessments.

There are however also sensible pragmatic H&S Advisors / Consultants who produce perfectly adequate Risk Assessments …….. just thought I’d add that so I don’t get hounded by any H&S Practitioners out there !
