Pre season friendlies

No the Isle of Man tourist board used to sponsor the Lancashire cup in the 80s the lancs cup was a pre season comp between us, bolton , Preston, Burnley , Wigan and Blackburn, and bury/Rochdale. The winners during the period of sponsorship were invited to take part in the Isle of Man football festival 👍🏻 Off the top of my head other teams that were there when we were , Aberdeen , Wrexham, Oxford and Motherwell .
We stayed in the same hotel as Wrexham in Douglas when McMahon was in charge.they beat us 2-1 as I recall and when the wife and me got back to the hotel in our Blackpool colours, the entire squad were in the lobby and gave us a sarcastic cheer and round of applause! 😂

I hate to upset the apple cart but surely we should support our local non league outfits so they can kick off the new season with a few bob in the coffers. Although i wish them all the best, Eastbourne are a team we happened to draw and defeat in the FA Cup and nothing else. I doubt very much that Spurs will be playing a friendly against Marine FC.😀

Eastbourne Borough, its what the people want!

Not sure if anyone knows a better way of getting in touch with the SLO about it? Messaged him on here but don't think he uses it that often. Club may have a preseason plan already but worth an ask ain't it.
We'd never go that far for a pre season game..cost?

If memory serves me one of the seasons I went 1990😯 just after Carr took over , they stayed in the Rutland, Andy garner and Colin methven spent the whole week in the hotel bar😁

AFC Fylde away & Squires Gate away are both happening. Eastbourne Borough have already announced theirs so that’s unlikely.

Surely a match v Morecambe with maybe a couple of thousand Seasiders up there in attendance.

A small microcosm of what to expect for when the Massive Wendies roll into town 😁

We went over on the Heysham ferry with the Rotherham squad.

As long at it’s not AFC Fylde, I’m fine with that.

Just for reference, last season's were ...

  • Saturday 15th August – Port Vale (A) KO 3pm
  • Tuesday 18th August – Barrow AFC (H) KO 1pm
  • Saturday 22nd August – Everton (H) KO 3pm
  • Tuesday 25th August – Blackburn Rovers (H) KO 7pm
  • Saturday 29th August – Oldham Athletic (A) KO 3pm

Suppose if they stick the lockdown back by another month, there'll be question marks over attendance numbers if we get anyone decent!

I will suggest either, a scottish tour away to Dundee, Rangers, Dunfermline and Hibs or Hearts maybe Aberdeen, or North West to Morecambe and Carlisle maybe Codwood.

I suppose after Everton last season, we're all looking for Liverpool in pre-season .. that said get the feeling any Prem side will be understrength because of the Euros.

A nice little tour of Devon Torquay, Exeter and Plymouth 😋😋😋😋😋 then Liverpool and Everton or Rangers at home. Perfect 👌

Ash - are you including Brentford as a new ground literally, ie you went to Griffin Park or have you never been to Brentford ?

Don't get why they haven't announced anything yet when Critch said it's all sorted? Covid or no Covid the games will go ahead.

Yes, I went to Griffin Park loads of times.
Everyone has their own idea as to what being a member of the 92 means.
Some say it has to be with Blavkpool whilst most of them are, my criteria is:
The current 92 grounds and you must watch “some” live football of the host team playing there. Even if for only 30 minutes🤣🤣👍👍🚌🧡🍊 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

i agree Tory corner it doesn’t have to be with Blackpool but obviously nice if it is. I even count like Brentford (griffin park) as being ticked off but would make a special effort to go to the new ground. I assume you’ve been on the “92 website pal .?

A full match, any competition or full friendly.

Did it spot on last season - play a few minnows, couple of League Two sides (by the sound of Critch this was sorted before promotion and so doubt we'll play any League One sides) and then am still hopeful of a Liverpool XI at Anfield as I missed our last trip there.

Bugger, just beat me too it 😉

There’s usually only one at home if memory serves. But yeh maybe the stadium is under going such an over haul they’ll need the maximum amount of time to sort it before the season starts.

Wonder where the Newport game is.

Does (N) mean neutral for the Newport County game?
