Prisoners being released

I seem to remember not long ago that a South American country, possibly Ecuador, built something like a 50,000 high security jail in three months or something like that. Our lot should get over there and check it out.

That’s
With only around 5% of reported crimes that lead to a conviction you can forget prison.

Crime really does pay in this country.
Yep, big problem that, it appears there is no deterrent.

I keep seeing posts of people videoing the police when they have been stopped for something and arguing with them.

They don’t give a xxxx about the police which is incredible really.

The answer, according to the deputy mayor of West Yorkshire is shorter prison sentences, guaranteed job for those coming out and so on which will reduce the amount of re-offending. Now, from the figures that were quoted she was correct in her assumptions, but I can only imagine re-offending not being a problem from minor criminals, you will still have the hard career criminals who will never alter, where a prison sentence is a badge of pride.

Consider that even if you have a minor prison sentance, you've likely lost your home and belongings, unless you have a place to store them or can afford storage. Your bills haven't been paid so you likely have a few CCJs, can't apply for any credit, most bank accounts, or buy/loan a vehicle. Most low-zero-hours contracts are run via outsourced HR, which includes a background check, so you can't even get a job as a cleaner or a warehouse worker. Not to mention that a lot of prisoners leave prison with worse mental health or substance abuse issues than when they went in.

I think the re-offending for even minor offences is almost unavoidable. I understand that many will say "don't go to prison in the first place", and of course that is desirable, but it's very very hard for most ex-prisoners to go straight again.

We have the highest prison population in Western Europe and woeful re-offending rates. The last thing we should be doing is sending peope to prison for minor offences and cracking down on the hard stuff.

2 months early due to over crowding in our prisons.
Government said however it will only apply to low risk category prisoners.

Who says crime doesn’t pay? 🤷‍♂️
There's plenty of room on the plane to Rwanda. It's a lovely, friendly safe place according to the Home Secretary. Why not?

I'm sure it would be a vote winner to send pensioners on a one way ticket to Rwanda.
No seriously it’s too nicer place for prisoners thats why I suggest our senior citizens.
It would ease the strain on the NHS and sort the problem out of people living too long by getting shut. 👍

Here we go again , have a go at the pensioners. Useless bloody articles that we are.

Don't forget , if you're lucky enough you will become one yourself some day, so better get the sunscreen purchased for your long awaited trip to Rwanda.

I love all the RWNJ's demanding ever harsher punishments which have never worked anywhere, at any time in history, evidence isn't their strong suit it seems. Early release is all well and good if managed properly but of course it's a shambles. Probabtion can't cope, you do want them supervised right? Substance abuse advisors can't cope, housing services can't cope, mental health services can't cope and before anyone starts whinging about cost a prison place is ~40k a year. Other countries like Holland and Norway manage things so much better with far better outcomes for all.
