Prom crash

Ah fair point!!
In fact my top tip would be for anyone reading this post to go on the DVLA website and check if they are ok.

I was told by my regular mechanic when I booked an old car in for a service that it should have had an MOT about 2 months before. He laughed which was a bit rich as I’d have thought it was part of his job to tell me! I told a friend via work who also laughed. And he then rang a few days later to say he should also have had an MOT. About 6 months before.

And then make a diary note. Wherever you make a diary note.

You can sign up for text reminders from the DVLA but I think they cost money.

As you aren’t automatically notified when you need an MOT, and your insurance is automatically invalidated when you drive without an MOT, I imagine a lot of people are caught out.

In fact I know for a fact they are.
Insurance is not automatically invalid without an MOT, it needs to be written in the contract terms.

But I think it is in most policies?

I dunno tbh. Just what I’ve been told. And who ever reads the small print when they renew their insurance?

Text reminders from the DVLA are free ,you get one four weeks before it’s due.

This is just me asking a question for my own information....and for no one else

But, where is it reported that the car had no MOT or Insurance?
I've looked on the Gazette, Lancs Live & BBC and all say....."No further details have been released by police"
Just wondered where this came from?

AVFTT jerneylism at its best.

Just had major heart surgery, maybe on medication and he thinks its ok to drive a killing machine. Get well soon.
There are a whole range of medical conditions that you have to notify the DVLA about and some (including heart surgery) where you need to stop driving until you are cleared by your doctor. When I was in hospital for over half of 2022 with leukaemia I checked the DVLA list when I came out. Although leukaemia was not a notifiable condition I actually didn't drive for 6 months, as I didn't feel quite right, both physically and mentally (concentration) to do so at first, and didn't want to cause an accident

What's all this about 'old' drivers?
I just renewed my licence for 3 years.
Starting driving at 16 years old (PO m/bikes) I've been driving regularly for 62 years.
That includes the Army on Daimler Dingo Scout Cars (look it up) & 3 ton trucks.
Also 'illegal' trips round the Tank Park in a Centurion (tank), and a half track.
