Promotion Vs Consolidation

Personally think it will be a bigger challenge getting out of League 1 than keeping Blackpool in the Championship next season.

Blackpool in the Championship with this squad, management team and the feel good factor in place (and not to mention Simon Sadlers financial support) will make attracting quality players on permanents and loans much easier than it would if we have another season in League 1 and have to compete with some very big clubs by League 1 standard next season.

That being said I don’t think there’s any pressure on Critch to get us promoted this season as I think a Play Off push is pretty much where initial aspirations were set and securing promotion at the first attempt would be probably quite unexpected by the owner and board.

I hope for our and Critch’s sake we bloody do it though as we’re in for a hell of a ride 🤞

You could see at the beginning of the season and how our results were going Critch was feeling his way. October we had seen enough games to be able to look at areas that needed improvement. Backroom staff Colin Calderwood comes in as number 2, we sign Kenny Dougall a player who for me has made a difference. We started winning battles in midfield, the tactics were adjusted, we dropped off on the high press and we began to get favourable results. At this point of the season I'm sure we all would have given our right arms to be where we are now, but now we are there we want to kick on and do better. It has been a very productive season and with that bit of success our expectations have risen. We have a very good chance of reaching the play offs, the word consolidation is not in our vocabulary as long as promotion can still be achieved.
It has been a very promising season since October and long may it continue. UTMP!

Of course we may not get there. However, I'm tempted to agree LA1. Critchley's style is more Championship/Prem and, with some canny additions, we might hold our own up there. BUT......

We’ll find out if we get there - it’s still a chance not in our favour

we’d have to make a few major signings imho to survive in the Championship - don’t be fooled about our pedigree

let’s see where we get

I'd hazard a guess that being in 5th place there is a significant amount of pressure for Critch to get us promoted this season. Some of that pressure he'll put on himself. It's a golden opportunity. If we fail to go up I would be gobsmacked if he and Simon Sadler weren't gutted.

It's bordering on excuse making and defeatist to think it wouldn't be a massive disappointment as we are probably the 3rd best team in this division even without key players.
