Ray Davies. Kinks

Aaah, The Kinks. I remember seeing them several times, the best in Manchester Poly students Union in 1978 when they were somewhat unfashionable but people were beginning to realise their heritage.
This double CD has many of the B-sides to singles as well as their best known songs.

Weird. I thought for a moment it was a thread about Ron Davies the Southampton striker of the 70's and went looking on his wiki page.
His first goal for them was at Bloomfield Road- quote thus: "The first of his 134 League goals for Southampton was on 27 August 1966 at Bloomfield Road, as his club beat hosts Blackpool 3–2. In front of a crowd of 15,258, he lobbed Tony Waiters. "The 'keeper came off his line – way out of the box. I was 35 yards out and I couldn't believe it. I just knocked it over his head. "

Roy Harper -- When an old cricketer leaves the crease. How much more English can you get? A local connection too. Lived in St Annes from age 6 and went to King Edwards.

When an old cricketer leaves the crease, you never know whether he's gone
If sometimes you're catching a fleeting glimpse of a twelfth man at silly Mid-on
And it could be Geoff and it could be John with a new ball sting in his tail
And it could be me and it could be thee and it could be the sting in the ale, the sting in the ale.

Don’t worry he’s still with us. Just listening to Tom Robinson on 6music with Ray Davies in conversation, most enjoyable. Always thought he is probably my favourite songwriter, observer, of Englishness through his lyrics, could name more over the decades, but what about you guys? Whose yours.

Stop it, I thought he'd left us.
