Reading away pub

FGG - Madejski Stadium (Select Car Leasing Stadium)

There is a small Fan Zone outside the East Stand that has a couple of mobile bar units which normally both home and away fans can use.

In terms of nearby pubs, there aren’t many in walking distance other than a bar in the Holiday Inn which is across the road. As such, we urge away fans to simply enjoy a few pubs in Reading Town Centre before getting a bus or taxi to the stadium.

Wonder how they will cope with 2k+ away fans - will they have increased capacity for many other League One sides this season?

I would imagine Oxford, Portsmouth and Derby all took maximum allocation. No doubt Bolton and any London club will have taken a fair few. Then you have Northampton and Wycombe who are both close. I don't think 2K+ away fans is something they aren't used to.

Northampton and Wycombe only get 5,000 - 7,000 for their home games, neither are that close, and the train is 1hr 30 each way, I doubt they took that many.

Charlton and Orient are both pigs to drive from, although there is a decent train service.

Derby was a Tuesday night, and they only got 9,000 total for that, Portsmouth and Notlob got 14,000 and 13,000 crowds respectively, which is about average for a Saturday, and Oxford was on a Tuesday and only got 14,400, although I expect they did sell out the away end for that.

They were in the Championship last season and the Prem not long before that, they've had huge away followings. I don't think 1800 is going to cause them any issue.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I'm sure they can handle it, particularly since most will likely drink in town then go directly into the stadium, I'm just observing that they don't have any real local rivals, other than perhaps Oxford, so a big away following is probably fairly rare for them.

At the start of last season, they were asking for all clubs to agree to charge away fans £20 per ticket, I think that's why.

On the Reading forum they're saying that it could reach 20,000 attendance this weekend.

From the post on the Reading forum :-

"Only five regular season third tier matches at the Madejski Stadium have exceeded 20,000 (officially) - Man City in March 1999 (20,055); Bournemouth in May 2001 (20,589); Stoke in February 2002 (21,032); Brighton in March 2002 (22,009) and Peterborough in April 2002 (22,151). For all but the Peterborough match, it's likely the opposition brought over 3,000 away fans."

The Three Guineas outside the main train station and a short walk to the buses that take you to the stadium. There are loads of pubs near the station but most won't allow away supporters wearing colours.

There is very little near the stadium but they do have a fan zone that is for home and away supporters.
I can't remember the name but the one time I went to see us at the Madejski there was an old (C17th?), pub incongruously sited in the middle of a pedestrian precinct. It had little rooms and was the only decent pub that I found.

There are a few decent pubs in fairness, the Oakford Social Club opposite the station has some good ales. Caversham a short walk from the station is nice enough also. Given the early kick off and proximity to the station/bus to stadium, I suspect most will opt for the 3 Guineas though.

That was the pub that heralded the formation of the LSG (Lager Splinter Group) Real ale pub run by Death Metal geezers, that was on the speakers continually and you weren't allowed to use your mobile phone in the pub and no TV to watch the Sky football..... It was the worst pub I have ever been in so myself, Timbertops and Khonkaen Seasider hot footed it round the corner to s pub that had a TV, no phucking death metal growling in your ears and free use of your phone, plus lager. God bless the LSG.

Think that the nearest pub is ,more World Turned Upside Down ,,,,if I remember rightly ,,,buy a meal ,,,you can leave car in car park ,,,but that was a few years ago,,,
