Their Galactico status and period of dominance is over and they don't like it one bit. They've always spent well beyond their massive income to attract the world's best players. Not only that they've reset their debt numerous times by selling a square inch of their training grounds for insane figures. Finally it seems it has caught up with them, make no mistake about it, the ESL needed the English pound so would have been hugely detrimental to our own league. Thankfully it has been stopped and the snakes involved can now be seen for what they are.

If anything the fan ownership issue that the FSA keep harping on about doesnt work,because money talks and someone somewhere will benefit from it. It happened at Portsmouth who didnt take long to bin their 'fans model' and ended up having to rely on a sole benefactor/owner.

Some will argue the end product is all that matters i.e. Galacticos (Zidane, Ronaldox2, Beckham, Figo etc.) as well as Messi, Ronaldinho, Xavi/Iniesta, cheaty t**t Neymar etc. for Barca ... and the entertainment, achievements and memories they have produced.

Plus I always thought there was an offset i.e. when Real Madrid signed Beckham they knew just his presence would bring in millions in revenue...

I don't know s**t though really... money put me right off football altogether along with all the cheating and 'top team' dominance i.e. the richest.

Good OP warrior. I think Newbury nails it in his response. The politically motivated financial support they have received over the years is shocking. Let they now live within their means. No wonder Perez is throughing his toys out of his privileged pram. He's liking it even less that Atletico are now Madrid's top team with a 'galatico' new stadium that makes the Bernabeau looks like a relic that football time forgot.
