If any woman deserved to be honoured by the nation, then Dame Deborah James was the one.
Forget the annual 'bunfest' of footballers / sports people and luvvy actors getting gongs 'for services to whatever', this lady fully deserved her honour.
It does put things into clear perspective though.
Cancer is a god awful disease at the best of times, but is even more so when the passing of the person in question leaves behind a young family.
If there is a tiny crumb of comfort for her family to cling on to, it's that she leaves behind a huge legacy, both in terms of her blogs / fundraising, and how she tackled the disease head on which as a result will hopefully encourage us all to become more aware of what our bodies are telling us.
