One of Parliament's great Democrats and Liberal stalwart has passed away aged 84. Ming' Campbell was forthright but always courteous towards his political opponents. Described as a polymath, he was not only a senior Parliamentarian but also a top Advocate in Scottish law. Add to those achievements the fact that he held the British record for the 100 metres (10.2 seconds) between 1967 and 1974, having competed in the Olympic Games in 1964, and it is clear that we have lost a man of many talents. Posters may also be interested in the fact that Ming's wife of 50 years, Elspeth, was the daughter of Major-General Roy Urquhart the leader of the airborne forces at Arnhem. Urquhart was portrayed in the film A Bridge Too Far by Sean Connery.
