Anyone else find it strange that he's wealthy beyond comprehension and wants to be PM? Who is grooming him to do this and what is the end purpose? Does someone who is so wealthy have the right mindset to look after the common man? Thatcher and Major came from humble roots and at least they had an understanding of working life. By the way I'm not on a lefty rant here just interested to his motives.
Personally I'd prefer Jeremy Hunt out of the current crop and preferably Greg Clarke or Dominic Grieve if he came back into politics.

not strange at all, firstly his wealth is predominently his wife's family's wealth although he is a multi millionaire in his own right, secondly a majority of MPs are very wealthy not necesarily in the 100's of millions but certainly tens. and Parliament or simple connections to parliament and the main political parties is a very good way of turning moderate wealth into a fortune.

politics requires lots of money so candidates either need to raise it from those close to them or those for whom they will then do their bidding. Adding to the post on how fascism starts, elitism is the defining characteristic of politics now, and elitism is peculiarly financial in context. Rishi sunak is i think motivated by the same thing that other politicians are motivated by, namely - personal power and their own grandiosity.

Ill add as well that politics seems to be the easiest way to turn a well connected individual into a wealthy one.

I wouldn’t go anywhere near it, even if I was wealthy, which I’m not. The next twelve months especially are going to be extremely challenging whatever their policies are.
the policies will all be variations on tax cuts (for the rich and corporations), increased spending on defence and more fluff and bluster on immigration and the EU, which enivitably will result in cuts to social services, NHS and education. Add in additonal tax increases for the bottom 60% of earners through NI, VAT, or Income tax thresholds: and you can bet your bottom dollar that changes to various law enforcement changes and more enforcement powers for police will come in for protests and demonstrations. depending on who comes in expect a couple of other thngs as well, such as limitations on inheretance tax, reduction in tax on unearned income, and a general reduction in capital gains tax - might even see a top limit for payment.

Depending on who gets in if they call a GE and win expect a similar situation to the US with abortions, there are at least two candidates who are pro-choice according to religious media, and a couple of others who have pro faith leanings and the simple way to get the Unionists onside with regard to the brexit agreement would be to make that concession to the Unionists.

There are only 2 candidates that I will endorse, both are female, both have ethnic backgrounds, both perform well in the house and in front of the media.

Well after that, I think I’ll go and live somewhere else, anyone know any cheap properties on the costas?

Its all very unfortunate for us with zero wealth to be told what we need to do by the haves.

What I think is interesting this time, is that candidates are going to have to sell themselves to the Tory faithful, with a list like Costero puts above, but within a very short time are going to have to swing to policies that the non party members could back.

I think its' hilarious that, in the middle of a real economic crisis, they are still coming out talking about taxing businesses less. Popular opinion has swung against this, seeing the increase in wealth of the billionaires, £500m boost to bankers, top 100 CEO's high percentage and bonuses whilst staff getting hugely less than inflation, enormous dividends to polluting utilities.

As a Labour supporter, I should welcome this level of ignorance, but I worry how much more damage and misery will happen in the next 18 months if the Government of the day, of whatever flavour, doesn't start to act for all its citizens, not just the elite. Mick Lynch is the first Union Boss in a couple of generations whom the press have failed to turn into a pantomime villain. Just maybe the minions are starting to see though the Billionaire owned non Dom national press. I really hope so, whoever the public choose at the next GE.

he's independently wealthy and has dedicated himself to a life of public service

Basically, Rishi Sunak is Batman

Mick lynch is on £124,000, hardly a pantomime salary

The latest promotional video and his whole image is manufactured. Some wealthy people are backing him, If he gets to be PM I'd bank on another round of severe cuts and austerity I know he clashed with Johnson on the economy

He won’t make it, that video is far too slick and he’s the only one advocating no tax cuts, that’s strictly against Tory principles.
