Rooney resigns

Made up story, and Rooney wouldn't have said anything about it anyway.

I suspect Rooney only made his mind up in the last day or so.

Methinks Rooney would have made his decision some time ago. The cynic in me would say he was hanging on for his June wages. Paves the way for Rosenior to take the reins…if the new owners fancy him. Why hang on and hang on and then, when a credible candidate takes over as owner you quit. Doesn’t add up to me.

Could be something personal to do with Clowes, maybe he knows he doesn't fancy him, so he's jumped before he's pushed.

Maybe, with the start of pre-season training, and so few players on the books, he's realized the scale of the task facing him and doesn't think he can manage it.

Probably done them a favour getting his wages off the books

Has done s great job there and will have no shortage of suitors

“I understand that Rooney's assistant, Liam Rosenior, will take training on Monday morning when the club's five remaining contracted players return for pre-season. Rosenior himself was linked with the Derby job before Rooney took the reins - I wonder if the right man for the job could already be in place?”
