O’Leary’s view on quarantine on arrival in the UK.

It’s not based on science.

The police don’t have the resources to check up on arrivals and passengers will ignore it.

Having said that he also think British families could easily quarantine for two weeks after returning from holidays (what about the government plea to actively return to work if you can’t work from home?) and if the destination country has similar rules you could isolate in your holiday destination (zippity do dah dah!).

He’s really up there with Tim Martin, Mike Ashley and Richard Branson in covid19 King of the Knobs Stakes.

I assume flights to holiday destinations are well booked during the summer months so he is going to fly his planes and if you choose not to fly then you have no recourse for a refund. Pretty transparent.

One of the few countries which seem to be getting ready to open up for holidaymakers this summer seems to be Greece. Because they have really controlled the CV infection rate well. Whether they will welcome a few hundred thousand potentially disease-ridden Brits is another issue, to be decided. Whatever happens, holidays are going to be much more expensive.

I see he is talking about scheduling up to 1,000 flights each day come July, would have thought that was a tad ambitious, perhaps it;s me because the thought of holidays right now is furthest from my mind.

Plus, where can you go, all other countries have closed their borders, ie, "go away you dirty English pig dog.."

Greece. Because they have really controlled the CV infection rate well. ------- or they just fibbed??

Greece will be open to tourists soon. I believe many other Eurooean countries are following too.

Ah, didnt see that one... cunning... hes played many cunning stunts O'Leary

Yes, Greece. Because of their past 10 years of EU-imposed economic difficulties their PM knew that Greece’s health service was potentially fragile, so locked down the country very early, before they saw any deaths at all. Sensible man, was not deflected by other BS politics and saved them much grief.

We are due to fly out to our place in Corfu on 22nd July. Dont think it will happen mind.

I would not put it past The Irishman to have his planes take off almost empty (if passengers don’t show up) and then turn back after 10 minutes claiming a mechanical issue. Then rebook the few real passengers on another flight. Seriously though, there will not be enough airports open for him to launch 1000 flights every day, he is just doing his frequent impression of a hyperactive child on a sugar rush.

I wouldn't put it past some countries to issue low death rates in an effort to boost their tourist industry.
Everything is fine, wish you were here.

I have used them a lot over recent years for holidays as virtually always the cheapest. However, the way they have treated me (and millions of others ) over refunding (or rather not refunding) 2 flights they've officially cancelled in March and May (and are legally obliged to refund) has changed my opinion.

Contact your bank and start the process of debit card chargeback. Your bank will deal with Ryanair’s bank, not the airline itself. If it’s a credit card payment then last option is to claim off your CC provider who will in turn get their cash back off O’Leary.

I'm lucky in that i'm not near an airport that they use and therefore I don't have to use them. But frankly, i would steer clear at every opportunity, precisely because of their business practices. The only way to stop them is to spend no money with them.

By the way, Ryanair has made an annual average of around €1.1 billion in profit since 2015.

Some time back, Ryanair took over the low cost airline Buzz, owned by KLM. Bruges Seasider was at a meeting with O'Leary when this takeover was happening and asked what the policy was on Customers complaints. O'Leary responded by saying if a customer complains, tell them to fuck off. factamundo.

Never had a problem .Get over to France several times a year for a fraction of the cost of other carriers. Live by their rules and you're fine.

Once got a return to Nantes Atlantique from Liverpool for £1 each way. True story. Cheeky beggars charged me £2.50 booking fee mind!

He has a point.
Used them many times over the years and not had many issues. A couple of times i couldnt check in online using the app. Once got stung for the fee at the airport but on the whole no problem.
I do find myself booking with easyjet if possible more nowadays though tbh.
I like the extra convenience they allow you to change flights for a fee & i like the reasonable check in back pack cost they have been very good in their response to covid.
But i often fly solo or with just 1 other person & it depends on the cost will pay a bit more fo easyjet but If i was doing a group (family) booking for 4 & flexibility wasnt required ryan are normally cheaper.

O'Leary will not take kindly to the advice from the EU issued a short time ago stating that reducing the number of seats on flights, particularly if the commission agrees to the proposal.
He has already stated that leaving the centre seats free to allow for social distancing was uneconomical.

Greece may have controlled the outbreak due to a strict lockdown and being able to isolate whole islands and communities. Health care in Greece and especially the island is not prepared and could not cope with any surge in cases once tourists start arriving.

Countries in Europe are talking about having bilateral or trilateral treaties where they allow the citizens of each other’s countries in; so Germany and Austria as an example. The measure is how well they’ve coped with covid19.

We’ve been talking to France (hence why the quarantine - if it’s introduced - wouldn’t apply to them). But as the latest in France is that citizens wanting to travel internally more than 100km have to register on the internet, I can’t see how that will work.

Meanwhile the Greek Minister of Tourism is saying write off this year. Not what lots of businesses in Greece want to hear but, as here, they don’t make the rules. Then again neither does the tourism minister, and Greece is talking to other countries (Israel being one) about relaxing the rules.

In terms of - would I spend money booking a holiday for 2020? Obviously not. But others might think differently I suppose.

Greeks don't play by the rules. Just look at the rooflines to avoid building tax. Then there is Corinth. Combined tax revenue in 2014 of €20,000.

Re Greek Tourism minister, not sure where you heard that mex but he has been saying the opposite from what I have heard and read.

Cheapest flight I ever had was £4.20 for a Ryanair return from Pisa to Manchester. I still dislike using them though. Ryanair just adds a little more uncertainty to the bother of flying.
