Certainly if you're good enough to make the top 12 players in the USA or Europe the last thing you need is paying, I think the Yank players are allowed to nominate their chosen charities which is a good idea, I still remember the Americans refusing to wear their caps in protest at not being paid and thousands of European fans waving theirs around to take the piss out of them!!

The Yanks have been waiting for this New York Ryder Cup for 12 years now and I think we will see some of the most rude and loutish behaviour by drunken Yanks which will leave a bitter taste in everyones mouths.

I may be wrong but I'll be amazed if the weekend passes without incident.

After those opening speeches from the team captains,, Europe is already 1 up ! Donald brilliant Bradley all about himself.
Bradley also made a huge error when talking about the USA victory at Brookline and Justin “Rose” holing the winning putt….should have been Justin Leonard.
Come on Europe !

The whole thing has backfired on them badly and they were left with no choice but to donate to charity. Donald scored a very easy point by declaring that European players, to a man, refused any payment.

They probably realised that the USPGA were making a shedload of money out of the Ryder Cup and they wasn't getting a piece of the action.

Once it became public knowledge they quickly became very charitable chaps!!

Only a %age of their appearance fee is to be given to charities and even then the players don't have to say which charities are benefiting.
It's alleged that each player is to recieve $500,000 and will only be expected to donate upto $300,000
 
The Ryder Cup often produces some of the best moments in sport. The Miracle of Medinah was something I'll never forget. This time around promises to be even tougher, with what is likely to be a loud, obnoxious and partizan home crowd. Our players will need thick skin and a good start, if we can quieten them down, things can unravel quick for the US Team. I'm expecting a very tough tournament, my heart will always say Team Europe but I fear this could be a step too far, against an incredible group of US players. Hopefully our team spirit comes to the fore!

Listening to world number one Scottie Sheffler yesterday he was saying he DOES have a say in where the money goes, his is going to local charities in his own area so I'm sorry but I'm taking his word on the subject Wizz. Anyway, the money we're talking here is chickenfeed to the Sheff, he made over $100m dollars in 2024 alone.

Even his caddie earned over $5million dollars!!

Only quoting what I'd heard earlier in the week RB👍🏻 no offence taken.
To be fair the money would be chicken feed to both sets of players there, I just don't know why the Yanks made a big thing out of it and played straight into the Europeans hands.

That's a given pal, NY prides itself on having passionate and loud mouthed fans, they've a reputation to keep and after waiting for 12 years for this event I'm sure they'll make sure they do.

All ramped up by us holding the trophy and winning five out of the last seven Ryder Cups, the Yanks don't do losing very well!!
 
Luke Donald is class his opening speech was perfect. I do worry about the lack of sportsmanship on the American side win at all cost. Shame it’s not on he BBC

Played Quinta Laranjal today, very good course, first time I’d played it.
Got a deal to play all three Quintas, so played North on Monday, south on Wednesday and Laranjal today.
Also got a deal at Val do lobo, played Royal on Tuesday and will finish at Ocean tomorrow!

Great weeks golf
Home Saturday, will miss Bradford but will listen to it on the way home from Liverpool airport

I hope Europe win.
I love the Ryder Cup.
It is one of the most interesting sports events.
It is good to see Scotland represented in the Ryder Cup, as Scotland invented golf.
 
Yanks send the big mouths out 1st Rahm / Hatton should win that.
Aberg and Fitz got their work cut out v Sheff/Henley
Rory n Tommy win game 3 v Morikowa / English
Vic and Bob should be shooting stars if they beat Cantlay/Schauffele
 
the Americans dont seem to like the first two days format esp the foursomes every alternate shot. So we need to be ahead before Sunday.
 
Yep strong start required. Bit surprised Matt Fitz playing this morning. Bit better form recently but average overall this season + poor RC record. Hope he proves me wrong. Come on Europe!!

yep, bit surprised Rose isn't playing in the opening foursomes. He's pretty hot form wise at the moment. Maybe something to do with him not being one of the longest hitters but he's usually very straight down the middle.
 
We all have to remember Schefflers record in the RC isn't too good either. It'll help him having a good friend in Henley partnering him.
