Sam Dalby

Only seen highlights but he looks very useful in the air. I can see from those dozen goals he scored for Dundee what Bruce/scout has identified.

I’ve got a gut feeling we are getting a proper focal point here assuming he signs
Yep. Like the focal point.

I'm a MASSIVE fan of getting players in who will compliment each and I think he fits in with this. Never going to set the world on fire, but should be a part of a improved team and brought in for a reason as opposed to recent signings who were brought in and then the afterthought was what do we do now with them.

First of a few I hope.

If you look at Sam Dalby's Wikipedia page and his STYLE OF PLAY, to me he resembles a left footed Tom Bloxham. I like the way Steve Bruce is looking for players out of contract that he thinks will do a good job for the Pool.
🧡UTMP🧡

Why would he go to Bolton stadium if they haven’t even agreed personal terms ? That’s complete bulshit
Players go to look around stadiums and training grounds when a club is trying to sign them. It happens all the time, especiallywhen theyre free agents with multiple clubs after them. Its not that unusual.

Not bullshit at all. They get players in to have a face to face chat, wine and dine them and hope they like what they see. Its common for out of contract players. Every club does it, that's why having a good training ground is such a pull as taking a player to have a look at a state of the art training complex compared to portacabins can be the difference between who they sign for.

True, that’s why Holloway used to meet players at a hotel and wouldn’t show them the training ground until they’d signed.

Remember a story that when Poveda signed on loan he pulled his car into the Squires Gate car park and thought someone had played a prank on him and given the wrong address, so he drove off.

I really can’t see all the excitement in this Dalby lad.

He’s just had a decent season in a league we all keep saying it’s on a par with league one but prior to that he scored just 7 goals in 73 outings for Wrexham who let’s not forget he’s had a season in league 2 and a season in the conference so he’s hardly set the world alight even in the lower leagues.

If he goes to Bolton or anywhere else for that matter it’s fine by me as far better players out there as the saying goes.

As others have pointed out above, majority of those 73 outings were off the bench (behind the likes of Paul Mullin et al).

If you look at his actual minutes across his career (11647 according to transfrmarkt):
- 39 goals, 18 assist in 209 games.
- 11647 minutes is the equivalent of 129 games.
- Goal or assist every 2.25 games (assuming he plays 90 minutes).

He made a decent impact off the bench in limited minutes, when playing behind the best striker(s) in the leagues. When he’s then had a chance to play a full season as a starter at Dundee he got 14 goals and 2 assists in 30 games.

Do I think he’ll be tearing it up in the Championship next year - probably not. But I think he could be a solid option as 1 of 4 strikers for us.

Sometimes it's not all about records, it's about how the player fits in the team. Proof of players not being up to it, but as part of a team they were different gravy is the 2010 team. What we don't need is to collect players again and then work out where to play them.

So if SB has a role in mind for him within the team then it's a thumbs up from me. Lets face it, building a team where the sum of the parts is greater than the individuals is the only way BFC will compete as it stands.

I find all this a bit weird to be honest , most on here thrive on calling the Scottish prem a pub league, yet you are all foaming at the mouth over some fella that scored like half a dozen goals in England over a few years and has only seemed to bag in the errrr, pub league!!!
Yep bizarre

Playing in a pub league after struggling to get into a sh!te Wrexham team

Anything is better than Beesley 😂

I 100% will sooner listen to the opinion of Jaffa than Steve Bruce. There’s no reason not to 😉

Have you watched any of the Dundee Utd games he's played in this season?

I've watched several, some of which against the Old Firm, and he still stood out as one of the better players on the pitch.

I suspect those that are keen for him to sign have probably seen what I have and think he'll strengthen our attack.

Because I did some work at Rochdale when I was doing my apprenticeship and saw it happening. I was there for 3 week and saw that happen with 2 diffrent players. They were in league 2 at the time and I was told it was common for it to happen in all leagues in football.

As I’ve said he’s had one decent season he’s done little all else prior to that.

And no why would I want to watch Dundee United play.

As said already Beesley has scored more goals in league one and how many wanted him to stay?
