Sam Lavelle

Wiki just says "defender", at 6"3 you'd assume a centre half?

Blackpool lad as well so that could certainly help us in our bid if other teams are looking at him.

His dads a Blackpool lad. Used to play for BJFF in the team above me.

Yep, I played Sunday morning football with his dad too. He was a very good player.

He is also is a well-qualified football coach who has been in charge of Lancashire and England youth teams.

Nice fella...

He was the manager of Lancashire school boys. He always picked as he put it "Big units.'' There was a.lad I used to teach who.was only short but was a wonderful ball playing midfielder but always got over looked because of his size. A real shame because the lad was a real prospect.
I think Ben played at both Morcambe and Lancaster City.
He once picked a team on the merits of how fit the mum was.

I haven't seen him in years

Last saw him when he was in charge of a very good Lancashire U16 schoolboys team which got to the national final about 6 years ago; my lad was part of the team, and said Ben was an excellent coach.

Myles Boney was in goal and McCauley Wilson played in midfield both of whom became professionals.

All three are now playing semi-pro in the Northern Prem for different teams.

Ben looked in good nick for his age...

Rather go for Mendes Gomes. 16 goals or so from the wing. We had a look at him last summer. Looks very decent.
Or both but that might be a bit greedy
Reports say Mendes Gomes is going to Rangers (as in Glasgow)

Not true. Contracted until June 2022.
Err, if he’s contracted until June 2022 then he comes into the last year of his contract at the end of next month.

Not sure what to make of this one. Not the most stunningly reliable of sources but would seem to tick a few boxes in terms of being the right age, local, solid few games behind him, position of need, contract ticking down etc.

Believe he was a youngster at Bolton who would’ve been kept on if it wasn’t for their financial troubles? Probably worked out well in terms of getting him much-needed experience...

Who did you play for Spud? He played for my Sunday team and was a top quality left back and a smashing lad as well.

Played with him at Boston for a season (their last).

He was one of many good players - the Baron brothers, the Maguire brothers, Chris O.D., Andy Fearn, the late Gary Robinson.

We drew with your lot 0-0 in one of the games, in an evening match at Wren`s as I remember...

I remember the 0-0 too, it was in 1986 and we were called Morley's back then and that game was the first time that I felt that we had a side that could compete with the big boys Marklynn, Boston and Great Ecc, the following season we won the Prem and Gledhill double which was the start of 30 years of success in Sunday league football. As well as Ben, Pip Baron and Chris O.D. both played for me and all of them were terrific players. Give me your initials so I can work out who you are if you're too shy to put your moniker on here pal.

Top lad Ben.
played semi pro at Lancaster and Morecambe.
regular at Bloomfield rd.
was with him on one of the anti Oyston protest marches.
in charge of education for Fleetwood academy lads When I last saw him at the away match pre lockdown no. 1

Don`t think you`ll remember me Bully, I was not a big name player (or particularly good!) although I played for 4 or 5 Prem teams: my initials are P.A.

I don`t think anyone will ever get close to your achievements at Sunday level, you ended up being the Real Madrid of Sunday football, and a catalogue of who`s who of top local players.

As an aside, I was briefly involved with FTFC (a pal of mine became chairman and asked me to help him when they were in the NPL in the mid 90`s) and I put forward your name as a potential manager during one meeting, such was your Sunday football success, and your `recruiting skills`.

I don`t remember if a call was made to you or not, and an ex-BFC player was eventually chosen as I recall...

I don't know any of this as I have been living down here since 1986 but I find it fascinating reading about the history of local football as you guys reminisce you ought to do a blog or something, or get one of the podcasters/bloggers on here to do something about it. There are a lot of topics that would make interesting reading/listening about Blackpool and the Fylde from days gone bye, not just football related either.

Ben was at St Joes with me he was two years younger, we both lived on Whiteholme Estate as kids.
My ex Wife also worked with Ben and his Dad at TAP agency.
A top lad I knew his Mum & Dad and his sister and his older brother (also a top lad) who tragically passed away too young.
My youngest lad and his nephew played played junior football together at Poulton Town (then Poulton St.John's).
Would love to see Ben Lad Sam, in a “Mighty Pool Shirt”🤞🤞🤞
Wether he joins us or not I wish him all the very best........🚌🧡🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿#88

I knew his Uncle Mark very well but he died early and very tragically at a young age. Used to go to Bloomfield Road with him when were kids and he also had relatives in Leeds, where he once brought me back a programme from a match he'd seen over there.
Still got the proggy and a letter from his mum which says 'think of him often' which I do.

Good luck Sam and hope you get the move you deserve.

Thanks for the kind words Spud, still can't fathom out who you are, maybe you can private message me your name.
