Season Over ?

That was bitterly disappointing tonight
Thought we saw a few sparks on Saturday and with three winnable games coming up thought this was our chance to get ourselves back in the mix
Perhaps we flattered to deceive v Southend
Not for the first time we started well and faded
Whilst the left has been problematic during our dip in form thought the problems were more evident down the right tonight - Turton again coming up short for me
Heneghan also had a poor game
Not sure what the answer is in the short term on the managerial front but with the squad we have we shouldn’t be where we are

I think you do know the answer on the managerial front Tim

Personally think the squad flatters to deceive.

Henneghan appears to be going backwards.
Gnados our best player which is saying something.
no pace in the team
The most talented player seems to be a young lad on loan.

I honestly think we are about where we should be with this hotchpotch squad.

Larrys doing himself no favours but these last two transfer windows appear to have been bungled. For obvious reason in the summer, less obvious ones this last month.

The season was effectively over before it started. You employ a man still clearly living off past glories with a catalogue of recent failure then you get what you deserve.
Not sure that’s quite right - we were 4th at the beginning of December

Wasn’t suggesting that only that whilst we weren’t exciting we were quite consistent up to that point
For me the wheels came off when we abandoned a system that worked to accommodate certain players at the expense of others

Oh, he will give him the season. And that should be that. Massively underachieved and isn’t the right man for the job. Wonder what SS made of it? Believe he was there tonight

He’ll take a pragmatic approach for sure and whilst most hope he’s an itchy trigger finger, think he’s most like to act at the end of the season

Heneghan and Turton were woeful tonight. Both of them couldn't pass a ball all night. I notice the Cods are 11 points ahead of us. How on earth has that happened. This is one of the worst run of form I can remember and I've seen some rubbish over the years. Grayson out.

Yes, we had problems on the right. Turton is weak in defence, and perhaps thinks of himself more as an attacker, but even then when he had opportunities to put a cross in he chickened out and we lost momentum. Teddy Howe -- Turton's obvious replacement -- wasn't even on the bench. Why?

Heneghan has lost form since his partner Tilt left (even though they hadn't played together much in recent games). Perhaps, he's upset that Taylor Moore, on loan, is clearly a better defender and has assumed the leadership of the defence. Something's wrong with him.

Instead of Larry being a static figure on the line with hands in pockets, he could do a Fat Sam and view the game from the back of the stands. Dunne could wave his hands and shout encouragement to the players. I'm sure that would help.

I actually think we played well tonight up until around the 70 min mark. Better in the first half than the second but when they equalised we did our usual trick of losing confidence and composition and letting everything fall apart. When we got to 2-2 I thought we might have gone ahead again but once more we were unfortunate and it went the other way (from a corner that looked questionable from the North).

On the managerial front I say we stick with Grayson until the end of the season, so long as we don't fall into a relegation battle. If we are to bring Evatt in then the best time to do it would be the end of the season.

Yep, about 2 weeks ago.

And that is why all the loanees and other players out of contract shouldnt play anymore.

We need to blood players for next season, not develop players for other clubs!!!!!

I actually thought Heneghan was a bit better than he has been the last half a dozen games. If you watched closely Taylor Moore had a poor game after a promising debut. Barely won a header all night, misplaced passes and got bullied. Heneghan was head and shoulders above him.

I think if we are having a go at Turton, and I'm not a fan, then it's only fair to point out that Bola isn't doing much better.
I asked the question on Saturday, and with the same starting eleven I'll ask again, what formatiin are we playing?
The nearest I've got is a lop-sided back 4????

To be fair for much of the game it didn`t look as if we would lose but really poor defending for all three goals plus Madine(whom I warned when we signed him scores very few goals) missing an absolute sitter, cost us dear.

It may be little consolation now but we did score two excellent goals courtesy of Gnando`s fine individual first goal and Feeney and Delfouneso for the second the second.

The only thing that was worse than the result was Chissy`s commentary on ifollow.

Of the new massive intake of players I can't yet see much of a glimmer in the ones we've signed Madine is too similar to Gnanduillet (who I think will leave) so he may replace him next season, but he would be better with a DJ type alongside. He may turn out to be ok, I know it's early days yet but Thornley, Ward, Nuttall, Scannell, Bola to a lesser extent don't seem to have added much at all, quantity over quality. I don't want to be gloom & doom after my longest spell without football, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't expect better. I'm not one for knee jerk reactions but i'm wondering if Larry is up to the task, still think he will be given time though. Who'd want to be a football club owner 😞
edit I forgot Bola is a loanee

Heneghan had made a fair few mistakes recently and is incredibly slow off the mark.

Quick players much love playing against him.

Bola has done very little, macdonald should be tried again.

i get the feeling McDonald and Howe might not have been Graysons signings And he doesn’t want to play them to prove a point.

I thought Heneghan was solid tonight other than his mistake for the goal. I do agree he hasn't been great in the last few games but thought he was good for the most part today. I agree with Mike, Moore had a poor game

Thought we played well for around 50-60 minutes, then we just drifted along doing nothing but waiting to concede and then go behind, which we duly did. Heneghans form is a worry and I really don’t get Turton, he’s gash. Gnanduillet was our best player tonight. But you do wonder had Madine not cleared one off the line and instead just tapped it in we would probably not be having. This discussion. Another worry is why does SG sign players and then they seem to just disappear from the squad without explanation. That being said I don’t see SS moving SG on anytime soon.

I know people critise him as a slow, old fashioned defender, but the best run of form, back in November was when Edwards was blocking and heading away everything that was thrown at him. If fit, get him back in.

Firstly, we massively suffered when Spearing went off and missed his pressing of the ball and simple play when he wins it. Secondly and this has been going on all season but has been highlighted even more recently. We have two great loanees in midfield who are excellent on the ball and are looking for through balls and runners but then up front we have two big men who don't want to play in that way. Its a complete mish mash of styles. Have one big man up front but then we need a runner with him like Fonz for example who can run but also play quickly. I actually thought both Gnands and Madine played quite well and a couple in our midfield played quite well but they are all doing different things so it just never comes together and breaks down going forward. I don't know why SG doesn't see it

Grayson has been fully supported by the owner and board. He has failed to deliver. Time for him to go. New manager then has time to prepare for next season.

They are consistently winning games, we are consistently losing them.

What are you on about? Since when did being tall mean you don't want to play football?

Why can't we play 5-3-2 and get the ball out wide and get Madine and Gnando on the end of crosses? This entire mess is Simon Graysons fault. We've got two strikers that almost every other team in this league would take one of.

Won with 10 men as well last night at 2nd placed Wycombe.
Finished the game without Barton as well as got a red card towards the end.
Pity Grayson doesn’t get involved like Barton does instead he just stands there with his hands in his pockets looking clueless.

Are you having a laugh? Your seriously taking me literally and think I'm referring to his height only as oppose to how best suits his style of play. Ha ha and then you say get the ball wide and get them on the end of crosses which makes my point for me in that they want to play different to our midfielders who want to play short quick passing.

15 games to go 13 points off the Play Offs - games in hand on the Top 6 and still to play many of them - get our act together and I still think there is a door to be knocked on!!

No chance of promotion now, use the rest of the season to build a team and style for next seasons promotion push. Longest preseason ever.
