I agree, have been thinking the same thing. Lavery has overtaken Jerry as our no1 striker. It’s rare now that Jerry starts before him. For me Lavery is the more natural finisher and goal poacher. What a statement to come into a Championship club from the equivalent on non league then within 6 months overtake a 20+ striker and become the clubs first choice! He really is some find and will only get better.Tin Hat on. Lavery is our number 1 striker. IMO, if he’s fit, he plays.
We've had this conversation a few times. Lavery seems to be getting more of a chance than Yates. I think they are about as equal as it could be.Tin Hat on. Lavery is our number 1 striker. IMO, if he’s fit, he plays.
I can't see that happening, personally.Add Beesley into the mix and I wouldn't be too shocked to see Yates depart for 3-4 million this window.
Shane is quicker than Jerry, better in the air and manages to usually get a shot away on target (Hartlepool excepted !). Jerry has better ball control and a few more tricks. Both have great work rate but with Shane being a little quicker that does put a little more pressure on the defence.I agree, have been thinking the same thing. Agreed Tango. We are soooo quick to prefer the new to the old on this board sometimes. First Maxwell has been pensioned off for Grimmy and now we have fans preferring Shayne to Jerry and making it sound like Jerry is done. Its a squad game and we need them all, plus form ebbs and flows so one man may be fantastic for January then hit a dip in Feb and the other gets the shirt. Lets not just write those off that are not in the team.I’d just like to remind people of Jerry’s finish against Reading, absolutely top quality. Can’t recall many misses from Jerry, he just hasn’t had any service.
Glad we have both, would love to see them both able to play together.

I disagree, it’s not about preferring new to old rather it’s about where we are now as opposed to wear we were say 3 months ago for example. Currently, Grimmi is deservedly considered to be the no1 choice between him and Maxi. Equally people now currently see Lavery as our first choice striker. Clearly that may change in the future but as Critch continually refers to we are all about continuous improvement and moving forward.Agreed Tango. "Yep, that's one of them. Good player.Bowler stood out for them. Nobody appeared able or willing to tackle him
And to be honest, he missed a close range header from a corner on Saturday that he really should have scored. This thread is quite a difference from the comments following the Hartlepool game where
he missed 3 guilt edge chances.
It happens to even the best forwards and great to see him to take his chance well.
I agree that they may be even, but not so sure about Jerry being on his way… Jerry offers something that Lavery doesn’t offer, which is ‘personality’… He’s clearly a character who adds a lot to the dressing room and he also relates well to the fans….. Of course a £3-4M offer would have to give us pause for thought, but over a long season, I think we still need both….We've had this conversation a few times. The problem they both have is they can't play together. Which limits one or the others game time. Add Beesley into the mix and I wouldn't be too shocked to see Yates depart for 3-4 million this window.
I can't see anyone making a 3-4 million offer for Jerry at the minute. I noticed earlier that Dilan Markanday who signed for Rovers a week or so ago got injured last Wednesday night after making his debut as a sub, and is likely to be out for the rest of the season. Very bad fortune. Might Rovers resurrect their Yates interest, given their promotion push? Offer a couple of million? I think they'll see him struggling to get a start here and think not tbh.I agree that they may be even, but not so sure about Jerry being on his way… Jerry offers something that Lavery doesn’t offer, which is ‘personality’… He’s clearly a character who adds a lot to the dressing room and he also relates well to the fans….. Worrying about who is the best is not the worst problem to have though
I love it mate, I don't care who's better. I remember seeing Billy Sharp and the Charlie Austins of this world at other clubs and dying with envy. Now we have two natural goal scorers and a proper shithouse unit in Madine. When it comes to the value of players, I’m absolutely clueless. So I’ve got no idea what Jerry is worth or anyone else.I can't see anyone making a 3-4 million offer for Jerry at the minute. 10 goals and was missing alot not bad is itTin Hat on. Lavery is our number 1 striker. IMO, if he’s fit, he plays.
If he’d have been here under the Os we might have seen this happen. Especially with that corner / drainage/ nemotoads. If the bowels of hell were to open up at Bloomfield Road during a match and the ball fell into it, Lavery would be down that hole if he thought there was the slightest chance of winning the ball back.
The concept of a lost cause is totally alien to him.
Why Madine as a sub!I'd start with Jerry and Lavery, using Madine as an impact sub to clatter into the opposition's tiring CBs. Notwithstanding we haven't seen what Beesley can do yet.
I agree, it should be either Yates or Lavery (not both) with Madine. It’s possible longer term that Beesley might challenge Madine or offer a different option, but big Gaz has been pretty consistent and deserves a regular start. Why Madine as a sub!
He has been a thorn for defences and his immaculate pass created the winning goal last Saturday.
Just my view - yep - a great pass. He'd have more impact later in the game maybe. I think Yates & Lavery as a starting pair would give them more to think aboutWhy Madine as a sub!

Lavery on radio Lancs after the Millwall win was saying Madine is the perfect foil for him, he keeps the 2 central defenders occupied and creates space. You'd probably get the same answer from Yates.Just my view - yep - a great pass. He'd have more impact later in the game maybe.
