Shrinking Crumpets

Now this is really serious.

I'm partial to a toasted crumpet now and again. A little burnt at the edges, and hot so that the butter melts through the little holes.

I bought a pack from Sainsburys yesterday and the crumpets seemed smaller than I remembered. I found another pack at the back of our freezer, and comparing the 2, the newer ones are thinner and weigh 20% less!

Is nothing sacrosanct?

Bloody shrinkflation is rampant at the moment.

Crumpets are divine, but have to be cooked properly. Under toasting is not an option.
You can always try the giant ones, but measure your toaster first, a mistake I made 😳

Great band. Much underrated.
 
Proper Northern food Crumpets.. Imagine asking for them for your breakfast in a cafe in London. They wouldn't have a scoobie.
 
And I agree with the shrinkage either chocolate bars are also getting smaller or my hands are getting bigger. I think its the latter. Lol. Mars bars used to be fantastic now just a milky way with a bit of caramel on the top.

Shrinking crumpets sounds like a very mild form of swearing. I might try it at Bloomfield Road.
" Shrinking crumpets linesman, that centre forward was two yards offside".
 
I don’t eat any butter or margarine. So my crumpet toppings include olive oil & garlic 😬 sliced or grated cheese, grilled tomatoes, pate & I’ve even sliced them like a barmcake & put a rasher of bacon in the middle. They’re the future 👍😃
 
Agree with Sooty59 - pate on crumpets makes a cracking breakfast, or anytime snack - full of iron. Marmalade works too. For me there has to be a good slap of Lurpak on there as well tho’.

I’m the same, I loathe butter and margarine so I have mine completely dry. Pate sounds good though…

Hands no, but our ear’s definitely get bigger as we age. I hadn’t realised this until my son pointed it out and I’m obsessed now with looking at elderly people’s ears and just how big they can be! 😂

It must be natures way of trying to combat us going a bit deaf! What! Pardon! Oh about 10 past! Now you've planted the seed I'll no doubt join the checking old peoples ear sizes fraternity 😂
 
We have them about once a week at lunch-time.
The last ones were the smaller ones.
Must make sure MrsDP buys the bigger ones this week.
Lovely with jam on.
 
Take three crumpets. Grill and coat with butter. Cover with a thin layer of Marmite. Top two of them with a runny poached egg each. The third one is to eat with some of the set white of the eggs.
