Sicily

We visit Italy regularly. We get the ferry from Greece on our way back from Turkey , down to foot of Italy and drive to Calibria region. The weather in October has always been great and the sea warm. Its very cheap as their season is coming to an end .
Two years ago we spent a week in Sicily and visited Bar Vitelli made famous in the God father movie. It was a treat for the missus who is a massive Godfather fan. Its in a beautiful mountain village, its well worth a visit . We enjoyed the week. Some fantastic scenery .Driving is not for the faint hearted though ,it has very narrow roads and mad drivers. We counted 28 cars one after another that all had some body damage. !
We didn't find the Sicilians over friendly.
I hope you enjoy your stay.

I really enjoyed it, Mount Etna is a great trip (needed a nice warm coat) the cafe near the top was a bit naff, although that was a few years ago. Still remember the price of a pint was steep especially if you wanted a known brand name.

I had a day on Etna in the cold and mist. Was unable to get to the top because they’d shut down the cable cars/ chair lifts and visibility was poor. Geology was impressive though. Following day from a sweltering Catania, Etna top was perfectly visible under blue skies. Mountain weather!

Know Italy well and I love Sicily. If you want beach the south coast is best. Inland Sicily is fantastic with some amazing villages and towns. If you like archaeology - lovely. Walk up Etna - its very cold mind you and good footwear. Syracuse, Ragusa, Catania and Old Noto are great. Hiring a car locally is generally really cheap and the roads and driving are good - the pace is slow and respectful.

I’ve booked 3 nights without any upfront payment and free cancellation
If it happens it will be my alone trip next year and very excited too 👍
Not booking flights until there’s more certainty around Covid restrictions at the time.
Thanks guys, more than helpful, as ever 😍 x

In Taormina Seasided. Hope you’ve missed the storm we’ve just had. Pi**ed it down for an hour
No, We copped for it in Isola di Ortigia at the furthest point from the car, we were by the Castle.
Moretti in a bar helped though👍
it was worse yesterday with the hailstones like golf balls. 😩
All sunny today though. ☀️

We arrived into Catania Airport with a very strong crosswind and thunder and lightning and absolute downpour.( this was late March 2018).It was a TUI flight and holiday and our pilot responsible for landing us was the (lady) first officer. She got a very spontaneous and well deserved round of applause when we touched down😀.
Cefalu is a good hour and a half ride from the airport through some great countryside but the major road was certainly a challenge for our coach driver as due to landslips and goodness knows what large parts were closed and maybe still are.
BUT what a great holiday we had and Sicily is definitely a place to visit.
I am sure you will.
