Simon Grayson unsure if non-league starlet Ben Garrity will be ready for Blackpool's first-team straight away

The non-league starlet was one of three arrivals on Friday, the 21-year-old making the move from Northern Premier League Premier Division side Warrington Town.

The goalscoring midfielder arrives on an initial 18-month contract with the option to extend by a further year.

“He’s a young kid who we’ve had watched over the last few weeks and months having had him recommended by people,” Grayson told The Gazette.

“He’s a throwback. He’s had no experience of academy football so he’s basically just a lad that is going to enjoy the ride that we’re going to be on.

“He’s full of enthusiasm and he runs around and kicks people.

“Is he going to be ready for the first-team yet? I don’t know, but what he’ll do is have a spring in his step because he’s desperate to take this opportunity to be a professional footballer."

Garrity has hit doubles figures for Warrington this term, having previously helped the Yellows to divisional play-off success last season

I don't think any of us expected him to go straight into the first team, but I hope he'll get a chance to come on as a sub when we're well ahead. (Yes, there will be such games in future.)

I hope Larry's negative approach doesn't drive the enthusiasm out of him. I didn't think the "throwback" comment was sensible. Pots and kettles occurred to me.

I remember a similar player signing and went on to be one of the best we ever made, not everyone's cup of tea, but David Eyres was an untried Scouser signed from a non-league club. If this lad goes on to become one as half as good as David Eyres then we have got ourselves a good 'un

I’ve no problem with taking this kid on - he may turn out to be a shrewd piece of business.......

If he means a throwback as in how footballers used to be with confidence in their own ability and unfettered by over coaching I'd take that as a compliment.
In fact it makes me look forward to seeing this lad in action.
Welcome aboard Ben.

Roy Keane was a late starter and look how that worked out. Worth a punt now and again on these type of players.

Notice he scored yesterday against Crewe - young, creative, probably confident .. would sooner have that and bring some talent on than someone like Scannell who is clearly just here for a payday.
