Sky - rewriting footy rules?

On Sky earlier - thoughts? I do like the idea of a sin bin for dissent. Larger goals might also add to greater scorelines?

Urghhh not for me thanks.

Just do whatever it takes to get decisions made correctly and quickly and scrap some of the bollox rules that have crept in past 5 years (yes not raising the flag when the player is 20 yards offside I am looking at you!)

Yep mostly nonsense however I too think there’s merit in the sin bin, even if it’s mainly to try and stamp out the ridiculous amount of playacting in the modern game. The officials have access to replays from every camera angle known to man so it irks me tremendously when week in week out you see a player going down clutching his face when replays subsequently show someone making minor accidental contact with his chest but get away with it. The game doesn’t even have to be stopped. The VAR officials can be reviewing something like that while the game carries on then if the replays prove someone was deliberately trying to con the referee into a decision then he can be sin binned for a small period of time at the next stop in play. I’m sure it would go some way to discourage players from acting this way particularly as managers would be more on top of it as they wouldn’t want their team to have a number disadvantage on the pitch.

Long thought a sin bin a good idea. I also think professional fouls should result in an automatic red card irrespective of where on the field they are.

Wing sent off would discourage them even more

As someone said, the Open is over. the Ashes are coming to a close so it’s time to resume the never ending football season on a slow news day.

I do hate the midfield professional foul to break up an attack that has mushroomed in the last 5 years. Sin bin is the obvious solution but defining what fouls fall under the heading would be a nightmare.

In my opinion, referees need to get tough ( just like parents, school teachers, police, the courts etc. also need to).

If a referee were to sin bin a player for every instance of dissent then we'd be playing 7 or 8 a side for long periods of the game (could be fun). However, if it were seen that EVERY instance was being punished I reckon the dissent would stop pretty quickly.

Unfortunately, every single year, the referees association come up with some law they will crack down on penalising more often. The result is usually they ignore the other laws that then get abused by players. When was the last time anyone saw a throw in awarded to the opposition because someone tried to gain ten yards? The reason? Referees have been told to concentrate on other things and too many stoppages or interference from the ref is not wanted regardless of the laws being broken by players.

The last time I looked, dissent was punishable by a free kick and a caution. No need to change the laws, just get refs to do their job EVERY time as the players will soon catch on. Players know which referees they can and can't try it on with so the sooner they are made to realise those days are over the better.

They have to give priority to dealing with the current ludicrous handball in the penalty area rule. Nobody even understands what handball is any more.

And while they're at it how about scrapping the offside rule. I've yet to hear a rational reason for having it. If it's to avoid goalhanging then why?

Doesn’t happen in rugby, the players have more respect, but then they know they’ll be sin binned if they harass the referee

The sin bin may be a good idea, too many sending offs occur due to yellow cards being issued for trivial tackles

The growing Saudi appropriation of big money sport reminds me of that Bond film where the giant Spectre spaceship swallows the Russian one, provoking a global crisis. Sky have been setting the agenda for years and their money has inflated the cost of sport for ordinary people, but I wonder if their time is coming - and not for the better.

No way but changes could be made to the timing of the games.
A big clock visible to all to see showing how much time remains for example.
