So who remembers this ...

I was on the open terrace, that was the day Nixon and Morrison came out to warm up looking worse for wear following their disagreement following the Chesterfield game in midweek which we also lost to a similar strike whilst stood in another open terrace.

Yep, shit pitch, shit Fat Sam tactics and Phil Brown saying he thought Oxford would do well in the play offs, wanker.

Yep I was there
The wheels had just started to fall off to deny us what had seemed certain promotion after we beat Swansea away

I am not going to lie, we were listening to the Swansea game in the pub in the radio - it must have been a Saturday midday-ish kick off which doesn't sound right ? - and we celebrated like we'd been promoted after the second of the 2 late goals.

It kicked off at either 11am or 1130am
We scabbed it to be fair but I think we were 10-12 points clear at that point with three-four ' easy ' home games against relegation fodder to come

Thanks TAM, my memory has been playing tricks with me lately so glad I got this one right.

I can't really remember the game but I'm thinking you were right in that we were lucky to get a result on the day.

At another point in the season, before we played Chesterfield away and the whole town rocked up, I remember we were 5 points ahead of Swindon at the top, they weren't playing that night so if we'd won we'd have gone 8 points clear and they'd have had 4 games in hand.

Before the game, the talk amongst our group was just that we'd be favourites for the league if we win and whether we'd go up in as champions or in second, we were not going to have anything to do with the play-offs.

Was the Swansea game a Sunday? I've got a memory of us playing on a Sunday late morning one time, could never remember who or why. Might be wrong though.

I only recall driving through Carleton as we scored the two late goals. When the second went in and I was hammering the steering wheel, the car in front had four lads in it, saw me go up, turned round and celebrated. And I think occasionally we kept looking at the road too.

I'm pretty sure it was a Saturday, we listened to 5 Live in the car on the way back to TTL.

Re the Oxford game, about 15/20 of us from BASIL were wandering back down the main drag into town after the game when a police van pulled up alongside us. I was walking alongside the Travel Secretary and one of the officers said "Could you and your group just wait here for a few moments Mr. B________?"

Apparently there were a gang of local ruffians ahead of us and they were very anxious that we shouldn't meet. He kindly flagged down the next bus and told the driver to divert to the railway station to drop us off. 😀

Yes I was there. Had a bad day all round as the car had broken down in Oxford town centre earlier where we had gone for a bit of refreshment. It was around the period when we were about 10 points clear of third place and so Allerdyce decided we would no longer attack and we played for the rest of the season by hardly crossing the half way line. A slight exageration I know but we did become ultra defensive and I have disliked Allardyce ever since.

I was there. Did Bristol Rovers at Twerton Park, Chesterfield and Oxford all away in the space of 11 days.
Me too.

Exactly my sentiments. His cautiousness cost us.

I was there when JB scored the goal of his life. I was also at the new Kassam stadium a year or two ago where the game was played in torrential rain, backed by a gale force wind. Pool were 2 down and couldn’t raise a gallop. I came out at about 4.20pm, just happy to get into my warm car. I also recall John Craven, John McPhee and Tommy Hutchison in 1970 staggering out of the Lemon Tree at 1pm, and expected to be on the coach to Oxford that morning to play the last game of the season. Promotion had been already secured at Deepdale, They all caught the coach, and played like men who were kaylied, and couldn’t care less, as yet another away defeat was wracked up at Oxford. It’s high time our miserable run in that town is ended.

Didnt Beauchamp go to West Ham then refuse to play?
