Anyone seen the new styled programme since Le Tissier, Thompson and Nicholas were sacked?

Caught a bit of it on Saturday while I had the Crewe game on my phone, can't remember who the other two new people were (was one of them Lescott?) but that Sue Smith is annoying and to be honest I don't like women commentating on sports, saying that, I don't like McManaman, Savage or Neville commentating either.

There was nothing wrong with what they had last season and there was no need to try and 'improve' with new people.

Apart from BT Sport is there an alternative to watch?
Nothing wrong with how and who it was as you say.. That said, I like McManaman, Neville and Savage as pundits.First two are excellent imo.

McManaman? Really? Can’t stand him, offers nothing other than stating the obvious. All about opinions I guess. Neville is excellent, by far the best on TV.
I haven’t watched Soccer Saturday yet this season, mostly because I’ve been watching Pool. But can’t say I fancy the new line up, don’t know why they messed with the formula. The pundits need to be ex pro’s for that show, so I don’t think Sue is going to be a good fit, regardless of how good she is or isn’t. I was surprised Jeff didn’t resign and they all took the show somewhere else.

Although the new Soccer Saturday format is woeful, they obviously can't have a panel of four pundits all sat next to each other in the current situation. When they are stuck in a separate room there just isn't any banter. Think Thommo was looking to retire anyway but always liked Le Tiss and Nicholas and along with Merson, who can't even pronounce names, they made a good team. Can't stand Clinton Morrison he's awful as a pundit. Pulls and Sherwood are as dull as dishwater. Hopefully next season when the pandemic is truly behind us they will revert to the old format, but yes they need the right personalities to make it watchable again.

to be honest I don't like women commentating on sports

Out of interest, what do you think, for example, of Alex Scott? Who has a degree in sports writing & broadcasting, and an honours list as long as your arm in the women's game. Still not keen as a rule of thumb?

Firstly, I liked Soccer Saturdays as it was - and I think fair play if you have gripes about it being changed as you liked the format and are a regular viewer. But shake-ups like this aren't strictly about 'improving' the format. They can't just keep ensuring the core viewers are happy and being satisfied with that, they need to branch out to new viewers and also try and capture younger viewers who are just getting into football etc. And part of the way you do that nowadays is more inclusiveness and better representation so a wider net of younger viewers get invested and hopefully stay invested for generations.

Also, it might help ensure younger male viewers don't harbour a mindset of 'I don't like women commentating on sports', which IMO can't be a bad thing!

I've nothing against women commentators per se. However I think broadcasters do themselves and women in media in general a disservice by shoe horning them in when they aren't good at their job. The cricket commentator Ebony is good, but struggling to think of any good ones in football but it's all subjective. Could be worse they could be Garth Crookes.

This women in sport thing is all wrong. I mean, it's just political correctness gone mad. And now they're even putting them on the telly! Never happened in my day....apart from tennis, of course, and gymnastics...oh, and eventing and marathon running. Then there was swimming, athletics, hockey, golf, bowls, skiing, skating, sledging, athletics, triathlon, badminton, squash, volleyball, motor-racing, horse-racing, yachting, rowing, weightlifting, boxing, martial arts, curling, shooting, archery, fencing and rock climbing.
Which is all well and good....as long as they don't show women's sports. That'll never catch on!

Nobody dare say anything slightly controversial or have an opinion in case it offends someone. That rules out a lot of banter unfortunately which gives the show a different dimension.
