Sonny Carey again

He was here a long time and did very little for us .

I can count on one hand the good performances .

Pleased for him he gets up in the morning puts a shift in etc but he should have shown his quality earlier so we could have at least sold him for a fee after the investment.

I can’t help but think he’s pulled our pants down a bit .,

Its weird people don't realise that players can improve as they mature and gain experience. Sonny joined BFC aged 20, left aged 24. Played 140+ games for Blackpool and had his best season in his final year. Now he's stepped up to be Charlton's best player and one of the most consistent players in the Championship. Its called personal progression.

He scored 8 goals for us last season and was epic after Christmas, you must have a lot of fingers on one hand.

95th min winner hit from outside the box to give Charlton 1-0 win against WBA

must be one of the signings of the summer surely for improvement and settling in, stepped up massively
Massive deflection which gave the keeper no chance, it looked to be going a bit wide. Don’t keep trying to make an average player into a world beater because he’s no longer here.

He was better after Christmas than he had been for the previous three years. Playing for a move? He got the move and at least doubled his wages, good luck to him, but don’t fool yourself he’s not brilliant.

Seems to have found his feet, always had the ability, just wasn't very consistent. Maybe the right manager, right formation at the right time. Good luck to the lad, he's lucky to be alive as my missus nearly hit him on the head at the St Annes Mini Linx a few months ago.

He's currently classed as one of the best midfielders in the Championship whether you like it or not, he has more ability in his left testical than CJ has entirely and yet he gets a free pass from a lot of our supporters.

Yes he was poor and inconsistent at times but he showed even at Championship level that's where he belongs.

It’s not much use calling Hamilton to me. If you have read any of my posts, you would know you’re preaching to the converted. But Hamilton, or any other player being bad, doesn’t make Carey good. As you said he was poor and inconsistent. If he isn’t now that’s a very poor reflection on his professionalism and attitude when he was with us. The fact that he improved his all round game when his contract was running out, says a lot about him as a person.

It's quite bizarre how some players get a free pass and others get criticised if they're not the best player on the pitch every week.

Carey was never ever as bad as was made out by some, and was rarely the worst Blackpool player on the pitch. It's no surprise he's doing well, and we're not since he left. In fact our midfield has been much worse without him, and I include the time before his form improved.
Our midfield now offers nothing. Few assists, no goals, not much defensive cover.

Carey always had the ability but couldn’t maintain any consistency, however, that’s not uncommon for a young player. He’s older now and has experience under his belt so it’s no surprise he’s doing well. Good luck to him. I hope he makes it up to the prem one day, it’s just a shame we don’t retain any financial interest in his future.

Kouassi is still our players, so we have a vested interest in how he is progressing

Little interest in Carey or Apter..
Kouassi doesn’t want to go back to Blackpool in January, he wants to stay the season at Cambridge so it’ll be interesting to see what happens
I think his contract expires this summer but we have the 1 year option

You don't shoot you don't score. He controlled the ball well , hit it with a bit of fizz and has scored a few goals similar and better than this. MOM. For 5 out of his last six games going off BBC. Ratings and what the Charlton fans say

Charlton fans are welcome to him. I am always happy for anyone who can treble their wage for doing the same job for a different employer. I just don’t get the thinking we somehow missed out on a terrific talent, when in 3.5 out of 4 seasons he was here he was mediocre at best.

If he had played in his penultimate season as well as he played in the final few months of his final season, then I am sure he would have been offered a new contract much earlier than he eventually was. At the time I was with the majority who thought he was just short and lacked heart!

Watched Tamworth v Orient the other night, Ballard looked good and has scored 6 already this season. The stand out player for Tamworth was a young kid at right back, Donkor. Now where have I heard that name before?

Always highly rated by me. I always wondered why he didn't play higher up the pitch and to be fair Steve Bruce thought the same and
hey presto goals!!

I know a fair few Charlton fans and they are worried a PL club will come in for him if they don't go up.

Wouldn’t surprise me, can’t feel but think he’s not interested in us anymore, been here what 2 years and never really got a look in, constantly out on loan etc

Always had the talent just took a long time for the penny to drop, it happens with some players. But when it drops they kick on to better things generally. Super Brett took an age to find his feet.

I thought he was a bit hit and miss, dont get me wrong I am glad his move has worked out and he has shown signs of improvement.
He was good in his final season and looks to of carried that momentum going forward.

Steve Bruce didnt apply much thought to anything, he wanted to play 4 4 2 and he literally had no other option when he put Carey on the left side of midfield.
The credit goes to Carey for making good use of his talents.
If Bruce had lined us up as 4 2 3 1 with Carey and Apter playing in the 3 id give him some credit but he didnt, we were.predictable and drew loads of games we.should have won.
