Soulless grounds in England

watching Donny V Sunderland and there is absolutely no home atmosphere whatsoever.

Keepmoat has a good away end but I’ve always thought it’s a horrible ground with no real soul to it.

The same with Reading, absolutely nothing to their stadium.

Any others?

To add, I think Huddersfield have a bizarre setup where their ‘home end’ is covered in advertising?

I know that a lot of their singers are located next to the away end and that’s where atmosphere is generated but it must be so bizarre for their players attacking an end in the second half with no fans behind it.

A lot of the issue is that these grounds are too big for their fanbase.

I know Reading isn't exactly renowned for noise full stop, but it was definitely a different place when they were in the Premier League and it was full.

Noise requires a critical mass of people in proximity and will travel from a small group to other parts of the ground, but only if there are no breaks in the chain.

Something for our club to be careful of if we redevelop the east stand. Our fanbase won't grow to 20k every week overnight, other than if we are in the top flight.

Dont know what it is like recently but the architects destroyed the atmosphere of Turf Moor when they put up those two grotesque two tier stands. I bet the Dingles could of cried knowing what the atmosphere used to be like down that Longside. You can include the University of Bolton stadium for Burnden Park as well, yes modern facilities but they killed that intimidating atmosphere.

The Keepmoat is almost a carbon copy of Bloomfield Road in every way except ours isn't finished. Dull and soulless.

What does everyone think of Bloomfield Road these days?
Certainly rocks on a good day, but not an architectural gem though?
I think it is a cracking little ground. It isn't on an out-of-town industrial estate, it isn't too big for our support, the lack of use of the east stand means that the crowd is more densely packed in the other three stands, the stands are nice and close to the pitch, and the kop is nice and steep.

The only real issues are with access/egress for away fans, a lack of space on the North and West concourses, and sub-par arrangements for disabled fans.

We had lunch at the hotel on Christmas Eve and it isnt a bad looking little ground these days. Lots of maintenance and tidying work that had been neglected by the previous owners has been done, the flags around the top of the North are great and the signs/advertising around the rest hide the sea of bare concrete that used to be so prominent.
