Sounds like we're still on our first choice list

Good to see that we are still on the primary targets list. Didn't feel last season as if we had any list bar give players another go!

The primary list under Critchley included too many young players with potential. These are tried, tested and proven players at the top end of this league. We already have some exciting youngsters like Casey, Bloxham and Apter, so I'm liking this policy right now.

I think Sadler realises we have to get back to the Championship and then you have the resources to look at young players with potential.

I originally thought that the Critchley plan was brilliant: a development coach coming in and getting the youngsters up to league standard. It didn't quite work out like that.

Me too. I was totally behind that whole model. UEFA Elite coach building tactics in the training ground for young prospects to shine.
Build, succeed, sell, repeat.

And then he left.

So did I to be fair. But I think we tried it a bit too much and players like Ashworth, Finnigan Kouassi took up a significant chunk of the wage bill without ever contributing to the first team.

In fact, by the end of his second term, many of our more established squad were completely devoid of confidence. Ekpiteta for example. Ruined by Critchley’s text book tactics!

It’s a great plan and possibly could have worked but NC put a spanner in the works by leaving out of the blue blowing the whole thing up .

The model has had to change because we’ve run out of time and need to go up asap .

In order to get up we need a strong core of oven ready championship quality players and because of the management set up and Simon’s willingness to invest we are getting them .

That’s how I see it anyway.

Listening to the Steve Bruce extended interview, where he says we are still in for a keeper, right back, winger and striker, he alludes to missing out on Darby, but says this happens in football.
