Spearing

Whilst I think Spearing puts in the effort I think he is now a weak link and should only be brought on towards the end of the match to close out a game if required.
He certainly does not seem to lift the players around him so who would be your captain

I can see the case for him needing a rest and for us to try something a little different, but if we play a proper balanced 442 then a grafter and ball shifter has to play and that’s Spearing.

My main problem with Spearing is where he plays. I can never really work out what his contribution is other than the occasional reckless challenge which leads to a free kick (usually in a dangerous area) and getting in the ref's ear. You can see the skill of Spearing from the balls that he sprays across the pitch but increasingly these aren't finding their man or he loses possession. I think his fitness, skill and general presence always made up for his lack of height but I just find the game passes him by too often now. 32 this year - he's probably thinking about the next stage of his career himself.

He plays a very high energy game and gives everything for 90 minutes. Now that we have new midfielders we should experiment with starting with them and bringing Spearing on as a sub to make an impact (literally).

He won't like it, but a bit of a rest might rejuvenate him.

I agree, I think for all his effort he is at the end. I would be tempted to play virtue in this role as he has a bit more youthful energy about him. You can always double up to see out a game.

Agree with most, I like Spearing but resting him wouldn’t be the worst thing to do. Maybe give Virtue a shot

I’d also play virtue and the two new ones. Can’t play any worse than the others have been playing of late.

I think Virtue and Dewsbury-Hall holding would be a good partnership with Ronan free roam in from of them finding pockets behind their Midfield. Think Speo has been majorly off it all season in my opinion, looks very nervy and rash.

Turton has gone backwards. Why play defenders in midfield when we've just signed two new ones?

I was thinking Turton as the hold midfielder which frees up dewsbury and ronan in a formation of 3-1-4-2

Interesting take on him - I can't help feeling that is the only reason he gets a first team start every game and without that I think he'd be on the bench or even in the stands.
