Stanley park again

We are a tourist town and need to attract tourists the existing golf course does not do that.
We also need to cater to locals who pay the council tax and keep the council in their jobs, the existing course and surrounds cater to locals.

This council couldn't give a fuck about the people who actually live here, they can't even be arsed lighting the prom walk in winter.

I'm actually struggling to come up with anything bar the minimum responsibilities that this council actually does for local people?

Stanley Park - Run by a local trust
Salisbury Woods - Run by a local trust
Marton Mere - Under the council, but funded by the Lottery Heritage Fund
Stanley Park Golf Club - Sold off for little money
Gyms/Sports Centres - Actually decent, so that's one thing!

If they go ahead with this shocking plan, they will more than likely lose most if not all of their seats at the next local election. It will be their ‘Derby Baths’...

Hope so, but the next council will probably be just as bad, we have a shocking record of incompetence regardless of the colour of the rosette.

At least we got a small unused field from knocking the baths down 😒

You seriously think residents are going to vote the Tories into running Blackpool not a chance they did it for the GE to get rid of Marsden and his anti Brexit stance but won't for a golf club which the majority of the town don't use and couldn't give two hoots about.

I don't want to get political but will do.

I know I've said it plenty times before but the current council and Blackburn spend all their time telling us what they can't do because of his cutbacks rather than making sure that they make the best use of the resources available to them.

I am not suggesting that it's an easy task but surely they should be doing whatever they can and collaborating appropriately to regenerate the town and get the all the obvious benefits rather than publicise poverty by talking only of managing decline.

To be fair, as Lytham alludes to, previous Conservative councils have also failed the town and what's happening at Stanley Park has happened elsewhere in the town under them.

pool

You make fair points but it's far from impossible that Conservatives get back into power locally.

Again, not suggesting that will save the golf course and/or suddenly improve the towns fortunes as both sides have previously failed as Lytham suggested above.

I’ve an idea of how bureaucratic these things can be & if it’s anything like how my job became no wonder very little progress is made, whoever is in power. There used to be a sign in the office saying “getting anything done is like elephants mating”. As there’s a lot of roaring & screaming & it takes 2 years to see any results. The whole system needs a shake up. I’m sure they do achieve something but clearly it’s not good enough & I suspect more transparency is needed as power seems to corrupt.

Most gyms and sports centres in the area are run by YMCA so they shouldn't get credit for that

I wonder how many local residents actually use that course?

I'd also be interested to know how many new jobs this will create for the area.

Thus council is unbelievably bad and should be thrown out at the earliest opportunity. Incidentally I am not a Tory but I would not vote for this present crew...

The biggest waste of money ever was under the Tories. I give you the Karneval with Bottrop. And it was a Tory council that closed Derby Baths.

Wiz

I think I'm now agreeing with you twice in the space of 30 minutes but I already clearly stated that the Conservative council was as bad as the Labour Council in Blackpool.

I visited Bottrop on a football jolly in my youth but that's another story altogether.

That ain't the issue this course is unique and with right management it could a real winner for this town ,for anybody who dont like golf well you have to admit it's a lovely place to walk around but not for much longer thanks to Adolf Blackburn and his crew

A friend has been in touch with the mp for Blackpool south today.
We await the submission of planning before any other action can be taken.
