Just been watching Laura Kuennsberg's series on the Government over the last 7 years.
Fascinating analysis of recent history we all endured.
First 2 of 3 episodes but the main points I've taken from it are:
David Cameron made a huge mistake in agreeing to a referendum on Europe. He wanted to sideline the right wing nut jobs in his party, but ended up empowering them.
Farage. Slimeball- and that's being generous.
Theresa May. A very nice lady, but stabbed in the back, front and all over by the rwnjs.
William Hague. A very astute analyst of the period. He was leader of the Party far too young. Would have made a good Prime Minister.
Philip Hammond. A very sensible and straightforward man.
Nadine Dorries. Starry eyed infatuation with Johnson. He could do no wrong in her eyes
Rees-Mogg. Confirmed my view of him as a very nasty and dangerous operator, who uses his plummy accent to try and make extremism acceptable.
Steve Baker. Very insightful and surprisingly honest about his actions.
Johnson. A bumbling moron who while good at campaigning, shouldn't have been allowed to run a bath, let alone the country. Yes he " got Brexit done", but his dithering over Covid and Afghanistan cost many lives.
Dominic Cummings. I didn't realise just how evil and dangerous this man was. In his own mind he was running the country!
Sajid Javed. A very honourable man who stood by his staff. Wonderful warning from him to Johnson about Cummings. " He won't be happy till he's burnt the whole house down"
Matt Hancock. Interesting comments from him about Covid and Johnson. Maybe he's trying to rehabilitate himself in the public eye, but came over as caring about what was happening in the country .
Dominic Raab. A complete inadequate. Holidaying in Crete and wouldn't come back to the UK during the Afghanistan crisis. Left the Foreign Office in the lurch
I await the 3rd and final episode with great interest. Thoroughly recommended viewing for anyone who's remotely interested in politics, whether on the left, centre or right.
