Show a bit of a change but maybe not quite what I expected. Long balls down, but 2 big strikers. Crosses up but accuracy still poor. Didn't have a player in the top 3 passers.
As usual opposition team in brackets.
Possession 37.4% (62.6)
Chances created 7 (10)
Total passes 273 (487)
Accurate passes 173 (389)
Own half 54 (224)
Long balls 63 (83)
Accurate long balls 20 (41)
Crosses 27 (14)
Accurate crosses 8 (1)
Interceptions 6 (25)
And the biggie
Goals 1 (2)

TODAY
Possession 53.7% (46.3%)
Chances created 9 (11)
Total shots 11 (14)
On target 4 (8)
Total passes 391 (344)
Accurate passes 285 (214)
Own half passes 100 (97)
Long balls 80 (81)
Accurate long balls 39 (18)
Crosses 29 (18)
Accurate crosses 6 (3)
Interceptions 9 (7)

So for me key stats: 118 more passes and an increased accuracy from 63% to 73 %.
But 2 goals scored and only 1 conceded.

Possession seems low for a home side as do chances created. I am not surprised by the 4 shots on target. Even in the Premier League we were always averaging 10-15 shots on target. In reliaty 4 is poor and where we need to vastly improve. I think I only saw one speculative shot at goal the home game.

Gillingham stats
Posession 54.8% (45.2%)
Chances created 10 (10)
Total shots 15 (11)
On target 4 (4)
Total passes 310 (256)
Accurate passes 192 (137)
Passes in own half 82 (42)
Long balls 97 (96)
Accurate long balls 28 (31)
Crosses 21 (18)
Accurate crosses 7 (7)
Interceptions 2 (9)

54.8% possession at home is poor. We don't seem to have that player who could have put his foot on the ball last night (especially after Spearing went off) and taken the sting out of the game. Virtue seemed like a headless chicken when he came on.

Those pesky stats again.

Posession 42.5% (57.5%)
Chances created 11 (13)
Total shots 13 (19)
On target 6 (4)
Total passes 283 (399)
Accurate passes 175 (301)
Passes in own half 68 (96)
Long balls 79 (59)
Accurate long balls 22 (22)
Crosses 29 (26)
Accurate crosses 7 (5)
Interceptions 6 (8)

We should put you in charge of BFC Statistics Insider. What do you think can be done when you have stats like 'Crosses up but accuracy still poor.'

Today's stats (Wimbledon):
Posession 60.8% (39.2%)
Chances created 8 (7)
Total shots 12 (14)
On target 2 (4)
Total passes 359 (230)
Accurate passes 249 (122)
Passes in own half 79 (41)
Long balls 66 (71)
Accurate long balls 24 (24)
Crosses 45 (27)
Accurate crosses 7 (4)
Interceptions 3 (8)

I know Feeney has a good "assists" return and obviously the stats don't show how many crosses came from the left or right. BUT I just wish he was a little bit better.
Top 3 passers today (from both teams) were KDH 36 at 77% success
Turts 34 68%
Ronan 30 90%
All credit today to Turts who stepped up to the plate.

What stands out to me are the shots vs possession stats. Both teams had 10 shots off target, but Blackpool had 2 less shots than Wimbledon despite having over 20% more possession. Yes it is encouraging to see us have a better pass completion percentage, but what's the use for all this possession if we have no end product. These stats also suggests to me that, as per usual, we were trying to walk the ball in opposed to just having a go and taking a shot at goal.

Well Fonz certainly tried to walk it in from 3yds when if he had fallen over he would have knocked the ball in.

I was watching Virtue yesterday, who we know can drive one in front distance, and the amount of times he had the ball on the edge of the box and chose to go wide rather than test a keeper who had conceded 5 the other night was disappointing.

When Bolton go down, I'd like Luke Murphy here.

'Our best passer was Virtue with 36 and 77% success.'

Someone else said our best player last night whilst others waxed lyrical about the loans and would tend to agree. Think Virtue is a bit of a rough diamond coming good and Thompson's departure to Stoke has clearly helped him.

I'm surprised at those stats which make Bolton look like they were overall the stronger side.

I'd assumed that our performance in the first half would have had more of a positive effect.

What the stats don't say is that that the Bolton forwards couldn't hit a barn door with a banjo! 😁

As I said on another thread, a lot of our golden chances are just failing to get on the end of crosses. Madine sitting on the ball was an absolute classic example but won't register on the stats.

Stats from Ipswich.

Ipswich had the top 3 best passers.
But at the end of the day goals scored
Blackpool 2 Ipswich 1.

My mate decided that we need another stat (SHS), Should Have Shot!

I would like a YeahUuurgh! stat to note the number of times you thought we were going to score!

We'd have won on both counts! 😁

I did not see the game but the stats tend to suggest Ipswich were on top overall and our stat for crossing with only 4 out of 32 accurate looks pretty appalling but wasn`t our winner from a Feeney cross so that and the two goals outrode all the other stats.

So although I am generally a great believer in stats the above stats would seem to confirm the old saying "there are lies, damned lies and statistics."

We create chances from out wide. As such, there aren't that many shots but nevertheless we create a lot of situations where we should do better. When the ball is right we score. Today was a good example.

Appreciate these Insider - do make an interesting read. As Dunn said we could have done a lot better and we passed the ball around much better on Tuesday but conditions, better opposition, tired legs probably all played their part.

Stats from Fleetwood

Long balls 99 (104)
Accurate long balls 38 (37)
Crosses 18 (19)
Accurate crosses 4 (6)
Interceptions 5 (13)
Fleetwood had the top 3 best passers.
A couple of points.
We passed the ball more, we had less crosses but that was mainly due to Feeney being stifled. I thought despite the the possession stats we were the better team and dominated although the Cods probably edged the second half.
If we had Gnanduillet and Hardie up front we would be a lot more threatenning.
The Cods pitch was poor.

Not really. I just take the figures of FoMob and these don't always tie in with other sites.
There are one or two individual stats ie best passer, best tackler but not in the detail I think you after.

I thought a lot of the Cods possession and accurate passes was those short ones from the keeper then sideways.

Stats from Tranmere

Ronan 50 91%
Husband 43 78%

Finally another stat from last night that I haven't provided previously
Fouls 20 (11)
On Saturday it was 11 (7).

In summary the stats do show a seed change but increase in the number of passes, passing accuracy chances created, shots on target, etc don't always lead
to victory if you don't convert your chances.

Carrying this over from last season, figures in (brackets) are Plymouth.
Posession 63.8 % (36.2)
Chances created 13 (6)

At the end of the day Plymouth scored and we didn't.

Total passes were up significantly with 83% accuracy.
Probably over-passed it around the 18yd box.

Stats dont always tell a story.....
Wycombe got promoted on 20 per cent possession.....
Its what you do with the possession.....

It was a game winning performance but as we know you don't score, you don't win and that was many fans concerns last week.

Vs Swindon
Posession 45.9% (54.1%)

Look at the comparison with last week specifically the passes.

The stats do lie:
vs Steve Evans dirty cheats:
Posession 70.1% (29.9%)
Chances created 5 (6)
Total shots 13 (6)
On target 5 (3)
Blocked shots 4 (1)
Total passes 518 (219)

So lots of good stats but we are not very good at putting the ball in the net or defending corners.

We pass around in our own half to try and draw the opposition out and hit them with pace. No plan B for when we go behind and they won’t be drawn out. We play exactly the same way. Not good enough. Adam in midfield today would have the ability to engineer real chances rather than young lads aimlessly passing it around without real intent. Frustrating. Again.

Unfortunately...
Football isn’t played on paper......
It’s played on grass....
We couldn’t handle their physicality....
Unfortunately lots more will adopt a similar approach against us....
We have to find a way or Critchers will be going back to Boys football
where mortgages aren’t at stake....
