Still think we'll finish above PNE?

Slowly creeping up on us after our recent form and they have clawed a few points back. Are we still confident about finishing above them (which is my aim along with a good FA Cup run) this season.

As Hazi said, we are a second half of the season team and they’re a first half of the season team.

I’ve offered my pet Nobber a double the wager offer on the back of our winless run.

Not overly concerned as long as we’re still moving forward, but yes if I was a betting man, I think we’ll finish above them, there is clearly more to come from us with key players coming back now.

In all honesty it's hard to tell - aside from the top three and bottom three there's hardly anything between the teams in this league. January will be important as it always is. But I'm quite relaxed about whether we finish above them this season, because I think we're on a different trajectory to them and it won't be long before we're regularly finishing above them even if we don't this season.

They’ve ragged a few results - only have to look at the 2nd vs Boro and the double handball equaliser yesterday against Fulham. Luck bound to run out.
Whereas we are due some luck. Denied a winner vs QPR from inept officials and deserved more from yesterday, even though NC set us up wrong.

Staying in this division is our priority. Preston have had many years of Championship money to spend on players where we haven't. Therefore, Preston should finish above us. It would be a massive achievement if we finished above them.
I think we may be in a relegation scrap if Critch continues with his defensive smash and grab away tactics.

Teams have runs, we've had a tough one and a few lesser results, swings and roundabouts.

It will ne nice to stay above however staying up is far more important.

Also we have beaten them and the best they can do is even it up at theirs.

We're in a good position.

We may have had many years of Championship money coming in to the club but that has been spent on keeping us in the black rather than spending it on decent players instead of spending a pittance on players of a lesser standard and therefore, the squad isn’t as strong as the one that got promoted.
Regarding ‘pool, you are doing very well so far, a lot better than I thought you would, and staying up this season has to be the objective and anything else is a bonus. So do their best, stay up and move on next season 👍

I think all three Lancs clubs will be in the Championship next season and the current top 3 will go up even though not impressed with all of them but they must get it right more often than not.

Yep, better squad, better manager, we're having a blip and as far as blips go it's barely that.
Agree,we’ve got ourselves in a great position in the league and the so called blips such as the recent draws including West Brom just show how far we’ve come, if I was offered these kind of “blips” at the start of the season I would most definitely have been happy to take them

£1.6m on Whiteman and £1.2m on McCann isn't a pittance. I know you've sold players but that's a £2.8m midfield......compare to our two midfielders which consist of a freebie and a loan from a club in the same division. That's what being an established championship club does for you - you get much more money when selling your better players, which can then be re-invested to build a squad. So you do have a significant advantage over us right now, but maybe (hopefully) not in a couple of years.

They've had a decade of an owner investing literally tens of millions of his own money. We had a decade of an owner literally taking out tens of millions of the club's money.

Yet we're above them. No wonder they're confused and angry.

No team in the Championship is better than any other. On any given day, bottom can beat top. It can and does happen quite often.
The only difference is that the teams at the top are more consistent and have better squads to cover injuries & suspensions.

You forgot Brad Potts, a snip at £1.5m.

I think you can add Burnley to that....they're coming down...imo!
Actually the Championship would be a cracking one next sesson then. And let's face it none of us are large clubs, all medium sized one's,who've all at one time had their glory years. Burnley have done really well to stay up for a number of seasons now, but I feel sure they'll be relegated this time and 'find their level'. That really is probably the best any of us can hope for....unless someone ploughs mega millions in, like Jack Walker did at Rovers in the '90s! I do find it quite amusing though that of the 4 famous old Lancy clubs PNE are the only one never to taste the Prem... 😀

Not really bothered where they end up as long as they dont get promoted or relegated.

Ill be happy with just staying up.

If we stay up and beat them at Dumpdale ill be over the moon

3 points from the last 5 games. Similar to the first 5 games, 2 points,on the face of it. But we know that the side has progressed, performances improved, and we have played top 6 sides other than Brum. Outside of the top 2 or 3 though, there is not a huge difference between the rest of the sides in the league, other than Posh, maybe. It's fine margins in nearly every game.

We are playing at high intensity though and toughing these games out and you wonder if we can maintain that all season. Squad rotation means we probably can, a lot of the time. But we do need more potency in the attacking third or we could run out of steam. January is going to be really important I reckon. We need a couple of players to boost our chances of scoring. In my opinion. we rely a lot on Keshi and Lavery to make things happen and finish the chances we do get. Which very much means better service from out wide and from behind the strikers. Not enough through passes that trouble defenders, not enough balls across the box. Jerry would have more goals if we had better service from different areas. The full backs get forward but they aren't getting quality balls in. Bowler and Mitchell don't provide enough ammunition. I'm sure all players will improve in this respect but it might take longer than this season.

It's fine margins; losing 1-0, drawing 0-0, bad referees costing us a game, if things had gone differently, we'd be in the top 3. But if we keep drawing then losing, we'll creep downwards.
As has been repeatedly said; our defence is solid, but we simply must start creating and taking chances at the top end, and we must improve the poor quality of our set pieces.
The coaching staff will be working hard to sort this (& quickly recruit SMc's replacement).
The experience so far has been brilliant, and survival has always been my wish - then build & push on.
Where PNE finish isn't important to me, winning when we play them is.
