Stoke City v Blackpool Official Matchday Thread 06.08.22

Should get something from this. They are a mid table side and arguably the gap between the sides was wider last season when Pool won.

With Powell absent and the releases of Ince Fletcher Smith Chester Afobe etc Pool should be expecting points.

I admire your optimism but arguably we could be regarded as a below mid table side and relegation favourites by a few people 😉
I'm expecting a tough game from Stoke, first home game of the season off the back of a defeat first time out, we could get something from this, but I'm not sure we should expect too. Fingers crossed 🤞

I get the feeling Apper's doesn't really rate Dougall but I am surprised he isn't playing. Virtue was highly rated by Quitch and appears to be by Apper's too. The thing with 5 subs though is that it can be changed round pretty quickly. Looks like if you have the shirt you've got to lose the shirt.

That was my first thought, I was hoping Gabriel might be fit and Connolly would be in the midfield three instead of Virtue
Appleton said in his pre match interview that Gabriel & Hubby are back training but unlikely to feature for another week or so, they may get some minutes in midweek, but you don't want them to break down and be out for ages.

What we can say going forward is Fiorini likes to shoot and can shoot from outside the box.

So can Virtue.

Carey too I suppose, so we have threat from the midfield.

Also Connolly can hit them.

Add in the forwards and we've a lot of players that can shoot and score, should lead to more goals.

Hubby thinks we'll score more this season and with players who can shoot better, you'd like to think so.

How Virtue gets in ahead of Dougall I have no idea.
Midfield for first half hour against Reading was superb which included Virtue. Maybe he is hoping we ask the questions rather than sitting back and inviting pressure.
Absolutely convinced Dougall will come on at some point. Appleton said Dougall had not had the best pre season and he is honest enough to admit it.

That midfield trio will get better and better with continuity the key. Cameos from young Charlie thrown in makes it very interesting.

If it's not broke, don't fix it. Just hoping if it starts well we don't drop off in the 2nd half like last week.

Like I said on another thread, I’m happy with that team , as it gives them a chance to build on last week’s performance, as well as having a reasonably strong bench !

Well I've paid my tenner , let's see if it works. It's only taking it once which is a good start.

I see Flint now plays for Stoke. Cheating bugger when he played for Cardiff at Bloomfield Road last season.

We look too hurried, which is down to Stoke's tactics, we need to get to 30 minutes and hope we have it sussed. They are all over us like a cheap suit so we need to be clever and take control so we can dictate play instead of them.
