Stoke City v Blackpool Official Matchday Thread 06.08.22

We need to be able to create some chances and when we do, put them away. We don't look like we have a goal in us up front.

We need a proper right back too, we have been much better this half and we have to expect some loses while the team settles and the new players bed in. It could take a few months of highs and lows but Apper's needs time to get it right, it isn't going to happen over night.

The Connolly/Bowler combination as a defensive unit quite simply doesn’t work.
it doesn't and it never will but even in that position it's not Bowlers man. Connolly too often tucks too far inside and leaves the wide man in oceans of room to get a cross in. Same in the first half too.

Far too weak with the goals and too much space for them to put admittedly good balls in and good finishing.

That’s because he’s not a right back, never mind all this bollocks he can play anywhere across the back . No he can’t, he’s decent in midfield reasonable in the centre, but a right back he definitely ain’t.

I think it's hilarious the despondency on here after nearly 2 games. It's a new manager, new players, new tactics and players still needed in certain places (right back, centre midfield & striker) we are going to take some beatings in the first few months but we will be improving every week just need to give it time. Need to get rid of the Quitchley deadwood too, there are plenty of them.

He did kind of get us 3 points so far though.

Not only that, massive difference between a player that can ‘do bits’ for Accy, but the Championship isn’t about ‘giving it a bash’

Jesus Christ get a grip, it's the second game of a long season.
This board is an absolute scream, all first half people demanding Dougal on the pitch, now JTH says he's not sure what Dougal brings, we've got an 18 year old kid from Arsenal, no heisn't the answer to all our problems but he may well be part of the answer.
Calm down for fecks sake.

When we can get Gabriel at right back and move Connolly into the midfield 3, we will be better. That's why last weekends win was a big one. I had hoped we would have caused Stoke more problems, it has been a pretty limp, uninspiring performance.

FT: Stoke 2-0 Blackpool Slight improvement from the Seasiders in the second-half but still nowhere near enough, so Michael Appleton’s side can have no complaints with the result. Poor defensively and only attacking threat came via Bowler.

Attacking aggressive football? .. not one shot on target...very poor.
Yep very poor, better 2nd half for a part, at least started passing it, but no final 3rd quality.

Too weak in defence and not enough in attack.

Tbf I think stoke will do ok so not too worried, but we have to be much better.

Bullied by a more physical side today who deserved it 100%.

It’s not often a side can play for 95 minutes and doesn’t manage a single shot on target.

Unfortunately that performance was exactly what I expect to see throughout this season and why I didn’t go!

I just hope there’s three worse teams than us this season!
