Been watching Strictly this season on a much more regular basis.

I don't know what I'm technically looking at, but you can see the differences between dancers and dances.

Quite enjoying it; but, at what point does the scoring/critiquing of Ellie just become patronising?

I say this as a bloke whose sister had LD's; her 40th birthday party was full of her Mencap friends, plenty with Down's who were just as game on the dance floor as she is.

The fella training her is doing remarkably well and I love to see that, but she's over scoring and it's annoying me a bit as it's unfair on everyone else.

It's also a bit annoying when someone who has played Billy Elliot also gets scored against the same criteria as proper non-dancers.

Oh and one last thing.

The drag fella got critiqued last week "Such a genuinely authentic performance" hang on; he's a bloke pretending to be a woman how inauthentic do you want!

Anyway, I'll be watching the dance off tonight to see who gets through.

Should say, it's not all complaints; I've loved seeing some of the improvements and when you listen to the advice about how to improve, it really is enlightening.

My wife & I said the same last night about Ellie……been the same in the last couple of years ever since the show went all PC. Not fair on the other contestants who in our opinion performed so much better than Ellie and yet scored less.
Also, why was it necessary for Shirley to get off her seat and go over the top with her comments about Alex & give her a kiss. Since when has that been appropriate for a judge.

We had the same conversation last night.

It's a dancing competition, and on that basis there was no way she should be 4th in the points last night, as uplifting etc as it was.

Similarly, week in, week out, Balvinder is nowhere near the bottom two but ends up in the dance off, which she then wins.

The British public shouldn't be allowed a vote 😉

We have had a blind guy and a deaf girl win though so it’s to be expected.

I think first and foremost it’s an entertainment programme. In what dance competition would someone who has never danced before be competing against someone who has danced in the West End. Likewise people with disabilities which affect their coordination would not compete against able bodied dancers, just as disabled and able bodied athletes don’t compete against one another in the Olympics.
Think of it as in golf where players are given a handicap based on their ability.

Aye maybe; but then they take the piss out of flat footed men or a certain age!

I suppose it's the personal context which affects me.

My sister, God love her was a beautiful soul. She'd put her headphones on, listen to Michael Jackson or Kylie and sing along.

She thought she could sing; well don't we all. She couldn't. I told her it was awful; but it makes you happy doing it, so carry on!

I just hate see people patronised (especially in competition) because the judges are scared of saying the obvious truth.

Equality, acceptance, whatever - doesn't lay there.

It is in the fact she's on the biggest programme in UK TV at the moment and having a chance to perform with one of the best dancers in the world and nobody has said she shouldn't have been allowed to in the first place. That's a result in its own right and so much better than the have been in the past.

And lastly, if she was my sister; I wouldn't have stopped crying at the joy of it all. Genuinely, her mum and dad must think about all the heartache and hard work they've put in over the years and just love this moment in time.

It a fine line between being supportive and being patronising. With all the recent controversy around the programme recently I think the judges have to tread very carefully and this may come across as patronising. The main thing is that Ellie is happy doing it and her appearance is making people rethink their attitudes to disabilities.
I agree totally with the sentiment, but some are being down marked for having an elbow an inch too low.

There has to come a time when her dancing needs to be judged purely on its merits, otherwise it damages the others' chances.

Strictly is even more predictable than Britain's Got Talent. Every series involves an experienced dancer, an old person, a disabled person and a sports star with no visible coordination. The disabled person if I can call Ellie that (which might be a little harsh on her) will stay in the competition until Blackpool regardless of everything. The old person will go two rounds before that and the trained dancer will stay in but be abused by the great British public for being good. It's all to do with generating discussion over the office photocopy machine on Monday mornings.

On the subject of Britain's Got Talent, I watched one of the qualifying heats at the Opera House this week. There were hardly any Brits in it and almost no talent. I think they need to change its name.

….and both fully deserved too……..by the way not watched any episodes as lost interest in this when you look at the current line up.
A bunch of people I have never heard of.

I’m loving Karen Carney, great dancing from her and such a lovely sunny personality.
Karen does seem a lovely woman and extremely grateful to be on the show , however she peaked in the first show with her performance and to me she has failed to come close to the same level since. (plus her dance partner is beyond annoying)

Also I think the camaraderie has gone. It’s all very shouty as they try to outdo each other, making a name for themselves whereas when it was genuine household names they didn’t feel the need to do that.

Breaking news.

Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman have announced this morning they will both be leaving the show.

Can it recover? Is anyone bothered?

I can’t believe men actually watch this contrived “light entertainment” willingly, that ran its course at least 5 years ago. The Mrs isn’t even that bothered these days thankfully. As with the bloody soap’s it’s been on in the same room, that’s reason enough to come on here. As for the overpaid presenters (who I can’t stand) if the show can’t survive without them, well it wasn’t worth airing anyway.

The blind guy was exceptional and the deaf girl can, I understand, hear some noise.
Both DANCED really well.

All in all it's a popularity contest and instead of the British public voting on the technical ability of the 'celebrity' and I use that term lightly, they are voting on the 'journey ' that particular person goes through🙄

The amount of times, at the later stages, the judges say that neither couple should be in the dance off should tell you it's only a popularity contest.

She was amazing, she couldn’t hear the music, that’s incredible and for me Chris was even more incredible, I mean, blind! To dance like he did was just heart lifting and both fully deserved their victories. I have to say I think the judges are patronising Ellie and I find it an uncomfortable watch.
I don’t think the judges could win however they approach it some respects. .
Rose was fabulous. The best.

Chris was amazing considering his disability, but nowhere near the best dancer, that’s where the lines blur as to what we a judging on, best considering disability, or just the actual best.

It's beyond a joke now when Ellie continues to stomp about while Amber and Jimmy end up in the dance off, with Jimmy leaving.

They were 2nd and 4th in the judges' voting.

And this is how we got to the mess of Brexit, by trusting the British public.. have we learned nothing?

We trusted them to vote in a competent government too.
That pesky British public always voting for the underdog hoping for the best😉👍🏻

Yep Rose couldn't hear the music, correct Herts. What she could do was feel the beat of the band/music vibrating through the floor and she based her timing a lot on that. Amazing, just amazing.

Great dance and music choice from Lewis and Katya tonight. Was waiting for a stand out performance, and that has to be it
I have no problem with the celeb dancers having some experience if they can do that. Fair play to Lewis but now probably won't win!
