Strikers…

One goal in 3 games and clearly we are woeful in the final third …. Surely we will focus on a striker in for Saturday??
I said exactly the same thing.
To be fair to Barrow they were very organised in defence but then again so are all Championship clubs. We need to find a goal scorer from somewhere or it will be a very long season!!

Sadly I don't think 1 point anything million gets you anywhere near that anymore. Toney went to Brentford for £5m after one 20+ goal season for Peterborough in League One.
Agreed, hypotenuse. They need to widen their search abroad - that's assuming they have an effective foreign scouting network.

Goals are hopefully like buses none then they all come at once
Our strikers fed on scraps last year and resulted in low confidence
Scoring 1 week then dropped the following week will not have helped
Whoever plays has to keep demanding the ball and keep putting shots on goal
Once one goes in it gets easier
When fit I think this could be Beesley's year

We definitely need Beesley fit, but also need a hungry striker with him.

Colby Bishop keeps scoring how did he pass a medical at Pompey and not us,let's face it our injury record is abysmal, one that got away
Yeah I’m starting to wish he didn’t fail that medical. If that’s what really happened.

It’s absolute bobbins. Must have been something or nothing for him to get through the Pompey medical.

In the meantime we’re stuck with a load of strikers who couldn’t hit a cows arśe with a banjo.

And don’t get me started on missing out on Simms… 🤬

If I was to take a wild stab in the dark I'd say Portsmouth were fully committed to the player in terms of the money and knowing the quality they were getting whereas we were just trying to chase someone elses deal having clocked the amount they'd agreed with Accrington. Someone saw their arse at the 11th hour.

Simms for his development needs to be at a similar club to Everton but not in the Prem yet, I'd say. And that's pretty much what's happening. To try and have a season where he develops further with more pressure on him than we could offer. We wanted him back for our own convenience, he has his own career to think of. A case of been here, done that for him. So I think that's what people have to see in that one. The two debut goals last weekend -the exact kind of goals we were starting to see him score in league one just as his time was cut short- is not a bad way to begin that next step.

If we've got people who are anywhere near worth their own salt working on this stuff then they'll have surely had half a clue how that one would go. Right to go back in as part of several on the go at once, but not one you'd ever pin your hopes on happening.

We made an offer that was accepted for Simms. The player chose Sunderland where he will play in front of 40k fans every other week. Can you blame him for that choice? We did everything right on that one, no-one is to blame

Do you have any kind of reliable source for this "failed medical" claim, or are you just repeating baseless rumours.

Spot on this mate. It’s like the bid for this Rotherham player, Newcastle have a 50% sell on clause. Did we not work out they won’t want to take £500,000 for him 🤯

We need to give Beesley a chance. Showed promise in his brief appearances. More mobile than Madine and could work well in a three
It's a bit awkward in a protective boot at the moment though even though he might still be more mobile.

They have to try to move on without him until he's able to come back into contention, and then Appleton will have to make a judgement call on him at that point. Critchley did his on week one of him coming in and then we didn't see him until we were safe for points.

Christ knows. What would they do if someone said 'yeah go on then!'? Maybe the Bishop thing would repeat again? No idea.

Was thinking more about the Simms one where they'll have known (or should have) that it was a 50:50 chance at best. An at least we tried fan-appeaser move including giving local media the heads up on it.

Yep this was definitely at play which is why days later we then went after Brannagan.

Can picture the David Brent style meeting…

We’ve told Bishop his left eye wasn’t 20/20 vision from when he was 13 as we thought we would get Simms! Now we’ve not got him… who can we get that’ll stop these so called fans from calling me “Bullshit Ben”…

Stephenson: What about Brannagan boss?

And even that one they couldn’t pull off 🤪

These are a few suggestions if anyone from the club is reading this:

https://www.transfermarkt.com/george-hirst/profil/spieler/420808
- good variation of goals from his highlights last season and we could potentially get him included on a permanent deal as part of the bowler sale

https://www.transfermarkt.com/sam-smith/profil/spieler/424885 /
- young spent time in Man United and Reading academy’s, highlights from last season look good similar to Hirst nice variation of the type of goals

- again another young striker who is 6 foot and has a good variation of goals along with assists, might be a difficult step up from league 2 but it’s been done before and he looks talented

Yes, I didn’t appreciate that. Do the same regulations apply world wide or has just the EU changed since the B word.
My guess is now we are post EU the player has to have represented their country a certain amount of times in order to get a work permit in the UK.
If they had dual nationality that qualified them for a UK passport they would be ok.
Basically we won't be able to afford a player from Italy, Spain, France, Germany. Brazil or Argentina but we might be able to afford somebody from a lesser football nation.

Africa here we come…

This is what the transfer team should be looking into, so we’re not fighting over the same small pot of players and invariably missing out for whatever reason. Must be bloody hundreds of players to choose from.

There will be a lot of players looking for a club come deadline day. Not ideal to wait but we will bring some quality footballers in I am sure.

Whilst others talked about right backs, midfielders etc over summer, when we did a poll about the place we needed to fill I put striker.
Madine isn't a 15 goal a season player, Yates struggled last season, Lavery came in like a bullet but I was never convinced and Beesley doesn't look up to it. Yet I don't think, bar Simms and Bishop, I've heard us linked with anyone!

think that was the reason we dropped bishop as we thought we where getting simms

One name worth a mention Chuba Akpom 25yrs 6'1" has extremely good retention of the ball, good pedigry.
May well become available after Middlesbrough finish there transfer business.

I heard not only did we meet Everton’s loan demand but that we had actually agreed a fee with Everton to BUY Simms on a permanent and were willing to meet his Everton wage however Everton allowed Simms to choose his next path and he’s opted for a loan at Sunderland.
