Strikers…

I heard not only did we meet Everton’s loan demand but that we had actually agreed a fee with Everton to BUY Simms on a permanent and were willing to meet his Everton wage however Everton allowed Simms to choose his next path and he’s opted for a loan at Sunderland.

I am not sure Everton would allow a player to decide a loan or is sold .

My guess is now we are post EU the player has to have represented their country a certain amount of times in order to get a work permit in the UK.
If they had dual nationality that qualified them for a UK passport they would be ok.
Basically we won't be able to afford a player from Italy, Spain, France, Germany. Brazil or Argentina but we might be able to afford somebody from a lesser football nation.

Nope, players from the top leagues of Belgium, Holland, Portugal and Turkey qualify so long as they've played more than 40% of the minutes, players from lesser leagues might get through if they're at one of the top clubs and get some points from European football, or if they've got international experience, or they might qualify via exception if they're young and promising.

The main problem I see with the system as it stands is that the German/French/Spanish second flights are all graded in band 4, which in practice makes it almost impossible for anyone playing there to get a permit, that could do with being a band higher.

Can we afford those sort of.players from the top leagues?
Don't think so, so it isn't a possibility like it was before with Grandin, Sylvestre etc

That’s fcuking bonkers.
I thought a ‘buy’ always top trumped a ‘loan’.
Assume we didn’t use the Everton youth coach, Keith Southern connection?
Maybe we’re lacking enthusiasm.
Got the impression Ollie would have persuaded that team to play for free, such was his energy.

I know I was there. If you’re content with getting beat by bottom division teams when we were pretty much full strength last night bar maybe 1 or 2 then you do you but I’m not.
I remember us losing at home to Yeovil in the FA Cup, on a cold day in December 2000, at the time they were in in the Conference. There was less than 4000 at the game that day and they brought over 1500 (from memory).

Historically we've been shit in cup competitions, we rarely ever get beyond the 3rd round. A loss at home to Barrow is just yet another to add to the very long list of disappointing domestic cup runs.

Remember that televised game for the embarrassment of kick off being delayed so the balloons could be popped on the halfway line that got stuck in mud! At least we got promoted that season after beating Orient in Cardiff.

Watched it in The Shovels.

I was there in in 2000 to we were shit but that doesn’t make it acceptable to be shit now.

Problem is last season we had Madine 9 Lavery 8 Yates 8 Bowler 7
Sell both Bowler and Lavery by month end and there's goodbye to about 1/4 of our goals last season!

How about Brandon Thomas Asante at Salford City. Very pacey, strong, can hold the ball up well bringing other players into play and has an eye for goal. Ideal for playing as a lone frontman.
