If everyone is fit what our first 11assuming everyone is fit.
For me the top picks are:
Maxwell
Stewart
Dougall
Yates
Garbutt.
The other 6 are not so easy
It's probably
RB: Connolly (we still need to sign someone)
CB: Keogh (just, Eky might oust him)
CB: Gretarsson (sorry Hubby but he's a better footballer
Attacking md-fielder/winger: Mitchell/Ward/Anderson/Bowler/Carey (no particuar order and can't decide).
Attacking mid-fielder/winger: CJ (but we still need one)
2nd Striker: Madine (Lavery/John-Jules (good feet) as 1st sub but still need Simms)

Discounting Gretarsson for now but bring him back when he's ready. Husband has done really well though and is durable and assertive.

I'd love to have Embleton in the Carey position below but it's not going to happen. Carey could grow into it, I think. Not sure about John-Jules at this stage cos I don't know where he will fit best or how good he will be. Maybe the Carey position, pushing forward to support Yates. I think it's either Yates or Lavery at this stage. Lavery looks determined to get in the side, Yates needs to get his shit together. The system isn't helping him.

Maxwell
?RB? Connolly Husband Garbutt
Dougall Stewart
Bowler Carey/TJJ CJ
Yates

Don’t like Dougall and Stewart in the middle. Prefer one of them with ward. If EVERYONE was fully fit, as things are:

Maxwell

Connelly
Keogh
Grettarson
Husband

Dougall/Stewart
Ward

Hamilton
Mitchell
Yates

Subs: Grimshaw, Ekpiteta, Garbutt, Stewart/Dougall, Anderson, John-Jules, Madine

Keogh, really?

I know what you mean about Ward. He and Dougall works well together.

Hamilton/Yates/Mitchell isn't looking like the answer so far, to me. Early days.

Maxwell

Connolly
Keogh
Gretarsson
Garbutt

Mitchell
Stewart
Dougall
Hamilton

John-Jules
Yates

Hoping John-Jules can make up for the loss of Simms. Would like Connolly at centre back in place of Keogh ideally with a good signing at right back. Could do with someone a bit special in the centre of midfield instead of playing both Dougall and Stewart.

Can't believe some are leaving out Ekpiteta for Keogh. Not in a million years.

Ekpiteta was immense last season after the shaky start and was as good as Ballard.

My best 11 would be something like....

Maxwell
RB Ekpiteta Gretarson/Connelly Garbutt

Dougall ward /Stewart

Bowler Mitchell CJ

Yates

But I like the look of Lavery also and Anderson like he showed today can do good things like the shot for the goal.

Tough one to get the attacking line up the best way.

No matter what we so we should have some good subs whether it's bowler lavery coming on, or if we started them and its CJ and Mitchell, Anderson, Carey...

Marvin seemed a bit off the boil today, passing into touch a number of times instead of to Connelly. Bowler is a footballer, CJ an athlete. Which should start as one must be a sub. Lavery looked sharp today, Jerry has such quick feet. Not sure where JJ fits in. Demi was our best player until his injury ☹️. I'm more concerned about the defence tbh.

Based on injuries but assuming Mitchell is fit I might go:

maxwell

Connelly
Ekpiteta
Husband
Garbs

James
ward

Mitchell
Carey
CJ

yates

it’s all a big guess-y though, I’ve assumed James can do a job holding mid in the absence of kenny and Stewart for example.

Ballard will be a big miss this season, so will Turton.

523 maxwell/ Garbutt, Husband or Gretarson, Keogh?, Ekpeteta, right back required or Connelly/ Stewart and Dougal / Anderson, Yates and Mitchell.

Or

442 Maxwell/Garbutt, Husband or Gretarson Ekpeteta again right back needed/ Mitchell Stewart, Dougall, Anderson/ Yates plus one from lavery , John Jules ?.

still short on recruitment but a month to go.

I said the same last season but in the Championship we are going to need that solid mid-field base and hopefully use the pace we have in the squad on the counter. Like has already been said we won't be asked to break down teams like we have had to League 1 or like yesterday. Still short of a couple of players though.

Oops, missed the “everyone fit” bit 😀

then:

Maxwell

connelly
Ekpiteta
Grettarson
Garbutt

Dougall
Stewart
Ward

Mitchell
Yates
CJ

Ive not seen enough of some of the squad However so may be doing the new boys a dis-service!

Marvins first touch yesterday was shocking, second touch was a tackle. He looked very shaky. I’m not convinced he’ll make the step up to the championship but the proof will bein the pudding. Keogh did ok but he looks so slow, a speedy centre forward will have a field day against him

I've included Keogh for the very reason that Critchley brought him in, experience, which we need at CB even if Hubby starts. I would hope Eky will replace him before too long.

We have a serious lack of pace at the back Garbs Connolly both a yard to slow defensively of course Keogh they could get a few roastings if they play together.

Dougall and Stewart will be the spine of the team in midfield and judging by the end of last season it will be Stewart holding and Dougall getting forward a bit more and covering the ground. Stewart had to drop in a lot last season as the Centre backs couldnt pass the ball forward. I personally think that is Marv's undoing as his first touch and ability to find a pass will be put under the microscope at this higher level. Ballard will be a big miss for us and we may yet need a similar ball winner on loan to replace him.

Be interesting to see how quickly Casey comes on, he looks pretty good and is only a year younger than Ballard. Just lacks games. Ballard developed rapidly last season.

I think he is exactly the sort of player we should be taking a punt on...maybe a back 3 with two wing backs would help him develop aswell
