Structured Dialogue meeting - opportunity to put questions to the BFC board

As advised in my Gazette piece last month, the second Structured Dialogue meeting of the season between Blackpool FC board and fans’ representatives will take place (virtually by Zoom) on Tuesday 17th November. This is an opportunity to put questions to the board of BFC.

Invitations went out to fans’ groups at the end of October. If you are a member of a formally-constituted fans’ group and you have a question you’d like to put to the board, please make sure you advise your committee by this Saturday, 14th November.

If you are not a member of any fans’ group you may send any questions you have direct to me by email: slo@blackpoolfc.co.uk by the same date. As many questions will be put to the board as possible at that meeting. All Structured Dialogue meetings are minuted and the minutes are posted on the club’s website.

@SLO_BFC - can we put questions to the board on here?

I would just like to ask IF we are back at BR this season with another reduced crowd, will they use the same 1000 ST Holders for the next game or would it be the next 1000 ST Holders who applied last summer?

With the Football Supporters Association AGM due, are any of the BST board standing or continuing on the national council?
Will the same Blackpool fans still be representing L1 clubs at EFL meetings too, given there seems to be some confusion after elections last time?

There's been enough confusion over the USA elections and we wouldn't want anyone being accused of being a Donald Trump would we?

BFC76 - would prefer them as emails pls. However, on this one IIRC, if there is another trial game with less than 4,000 allowed in, priority in fairness would go to those who did not attend the Swindon game.

Plumbs, that's really a question for the BST committee, not the board of BFC 😉

Steve, regarding Poppy shirts there is a suggestion the club should raffle them off rather than go to fans who can afford them, can you pass this on to the club ready for next season. Thanks.

On behalf of many of us, why was the decision to bring the Ipswich game forward made when we had so many problems in the squad, were in a terrible run of form and Ipswich were flying?!
Because we shouldn’t be able to pick and choose when we play at anytime, let alone in the current climate. I actually applaud the club for having the balls to play it rather than not play, like Sunderland do every time they get 3 international call ups.
If we’d got a result nobody would have complained.

I've e-mailed the SLO with these 2 questions.

1. We now have 4 players who are still in the Youth team that have been awarded professional contracts.
I would like to ask the Board what future plans are in place to develop these young players once they have graduated from u/18 football?

2. How long will it be before the u/18s can return to playing their home matches in Blackpool?

We did ‘pick and choose’, though, that’s the point. We chose to bring that game forward, unless I’m remembering wrong?

Surely bringing a fixture forward is picking and choosing when you play? As you say if we'd have won the game it would have been a great decision but we clearly weren't going to beat an in-form Ipswich at that time when you consider the state of the squad:
  • Awful form, no confidence
  • Playing Turton at CB because Husband was suspended
  • We'd just signed two CB's 5 days before
  • Playing Gabriel at RB and he'd been at the club a week (his poor performance also made everyone think he was shite)
When you consider that, your game being called off on the Saturday sounds like a god send, perfect opportunity for new players being added to an already new squad time to gel and settle in. Instead we brought Ipswich down and got pumped 4 - 1 and the Critchley Out movement gained lots of supporters. Awful decision, thank god we were behind closed doors when it happened.

I'd like to know why we are still taking the knee, once was enough. Sports and political movements should be kept apart.

I'd like to know how the club stands financially for the rest of the season, is there enough in the kitty and coming in to pay wages and bills, was surprised when Colin Calderwood came in was wondering financially was it affordable, presumably it is.

I'd also like to know why the Ipswich game was brought forward when results were so bad at that period.

Another question on The Academy that I've sent to Steve.

The Club advertised a vacancy on 15.09.2020 for the position of: "Head of Academy Coaching". This is a position currently held by John Murphy according to the staff directory on the Official Site.
Has an appointment been made and if so what is John's role now?

I'll shut up now.

I’d ask, why have so many inexperienced players been brought in ....
Whilst no experienced pros proven at this level or higher have not...? Bar Madine😎

I find it rather surprising that nobody wants to ask the board about race issues, especially when we are continually informed about the big problem that the club has in this area.

I suppose a training ground update goes without saying and I'd be interested to know whether cup revenue will be treated differently this year as presumably they can't budget for much this year with or without this extra revenue.

Not quite sure what you mean but ask away....that's what this thread is for.

I mean exactly what I said, just take it exactly how I've put it.

Many posters continually talk of the big problems that the club has with racism, given that is so I find myself surprised that nobody has referred to this problem when given the opportunity to communicate with the board.

I am of the opinion that there is no big problem with racism at BFC, whether that be regarding the opportunity and progress of black players etc or abuse from the terraces etc and the fact that nobody feels that the issue is of high enough priority to be discussed with the board makes me believe that those who continually refer to the racism problems at the club know only too well that there are no big problems at the club.

I would go further and suggest that tremendous progress has been made in this area, we can always improve but it might be an idea to acknowledge this progress every now and again rather than referring to non existent issues/problems.

There is a bit of re-writing of history going in here in certain quarters. I'm not sure how anyone can suggest that the club has "a problem" with a straight face. It's not that long since they were so incensed by something they read on this forum that they put out a statement deploring it.

The only "problem" around the club in this regard that I can see is with some of our supporters. The kind who talk about our "weaker, darker players" for example, and then get all hurt and defensive when people challenge them about it.

Yes, you are certainly right in that there is a bit of re-writing history going on.

To be perfectly honest with you, I can't make out whether you are suggesting the club has a problem with racism or not ?

That's not the end of the world, I don't have a problem whether you agree with my opinion that there is no big problem or if you want to pretend that there is.

Yes I will get defensive when YOU accuse me of racism and also when YOU decide to misquote something I said more than 7 years ago as a means of justifying YOUR decision to ban me from the forum - for a period of over 12 months - and YOUR continual allegations ever since.

I would not be surprised if you choose to describe this response to your post as an example of passive/aggressive behaviour.

Nothing could be further from the truth, I am willing to discuss the matter, refer to facts to back up my opinions on matters, make polite requests for evidence to support your claims and am certainly not looking to avoid direct confrontation.

On the other hand, you make underhand comments and then try and hide behind them and continually ignore my polite requests for evidence of my racism.

It could be said that your actions are:

"denoting a type of behaviour or personality characterised by indirect resistance to the demands of others and an avoidance of direct confrontation".

I'd be interested to know whether the club would prefer one fans group to liaise and deal with or if they are happy with the half dozen or so they currently have to invite. Does seem to me that now the days of the O's are over there is little point in having so many different fans groups representing us.
