SUBSTITUTES

I thought both Mitchell and Embleton did very well when they came on and showed what benefits can be achieved when the substitutions are made early enough. Mitchell looked particularly lively and I think he has been very unlucky not to play a bigger part this year especially when there was a vacancy out on the left. I hope he gets more airtime now and we can persuade him to stay . Embleton looked lively and isnt scared to shoot on sight which we havent done often enough...also involved with the goal. Virtue on the other hand looked a mile off the pace but it is always difficult to come on late on and adjust to the pace...he needs some speed training to have any chance to go further in the game as he is way way too slow.

I hope we learn from this and use our substitutes more wisely rather than just sticking 3-4 on together.

Thank you very much from another qualified avftt coach!!

Virtue has come in after a long injury and covid. For an energetic box to box player that's a lot to contend with. I'm sure he'll improve gradually as he overcomes those setbacks.

A great result.
However, one small criticism.
There were quite a few awful, supposed passes going forward, which went straight out of play.
Must improve on that.
Otherwise a terrific result, and everybody did well.

To be honest I didnt think he was good enough before the injuries and covid and now he looks to have gone backwards...I have nothing against him and hope he can find the requisite improvement but he is a long long way behind Dougall, Stewart and even Ward and Embleton in the battle for a centre midfield place. I would even play Robson in front of him...I dont doubt he can score goals given the chance but he isnt good enough for first pick in a team with aspirations of going up to the Championship

At his best and fully fit Virtue is an energetic box to box centre mid. Good enough for the Championship, I don’t know, but played in centre mid and not on the wing he is actually better than he looks now.

Totally disagree...a very average League one midfielder at best...nowhere near championship level

Good words about Mitchell, after getting slated early on I still rated him then and was let down by others particularly the midfield.

If we keep, garbutt and we are league one next season then that would be a good left side.

Passing was awful from both sides.
I wonder if the condition of the pitch played any part.

I honestly think he has had a rough ride and he hasnt been utilised aswell as he could have been. He has pace to scare teams to death...him one side and CJ the other will be hard to counter at this level.
